Re: LPDnD: Hazy Shade of Winter
[OOC 4 / 3 unless the rest of the group decides on 1, once he has rested up a bit, aka around lunch time, Stavis would try to inquire information on how things are doing at the Citadel and hopefully some safe means to get in and past the Chulassa, wouldn't necessarily seek Drayson out directly but if presented an opportunity to speak with him, would do so. Unless talking with Drayson quickly becomes the likely means of successfully getting the information he is hoping for.
If able will spend an hour or two inquiring, trying to be mindful to ensure he asks those sympathetic to the Citadel forces and not Chulassa.
Diplomancy to loosen lips
[dice]0[/dice]
Perception on determining any Chulassa sympathizers
[dice]1[/dice]
Streetwise on inquiring information

I was more interested in drayson when I didn't know he was elven, Syric may blame him a bit for what happened in the past also.
I pick 1 but open to whatever

Re: LPDnD: Hazy Shade of Winter
The party makes a list of things they'd like to stock up on, talk to a trader about some more rations for the dwarves, and have another round of warm wine before setting out.
The clouds still hang in the air, but gratefully there is no new snow falling. The party sets off leaving the lodge behind. The path here is the first proper road you've seen since leaving the gates of Silverdeep and despite some icy patches here and there the "refinement" of civilization is a welcome change of pace. The lodge and its travelers have done a decent job of trampling off the snow on the road for a good mile before a blanket starts to creep over the cobbled stones. Along the side of the road about every mile is a post stone with some runes carved in it. Victae explains that it is a mile marker indicating how far to the citadel. She says you have about 50 miles left.
The first evening approaches. Any special precautions before you make a camp and set watches?

Unless we're expecting anything specific, just that we're out of sight of the road and avoid calling attention to ourselves.

Re: LPDnD: Hazy Shade of Winter
With the group on a real road Stavis will not bother to conceal their tracks. When it get time to start making camp Stavis will have no problem with a normal camp since he would figures we are still far enough away that the likely hood of Chulassa's patrols out this far is unlikely, if others work to conceal the camp or the like Stavis will help.

Re: LPDnD: Hazy Shade of Winter
Camp is set behind a snow bank a ways off the road. Night watch roster is set and the night passes. It is cold and the wind cuts into every opening in clothing. The fire only can provide so much warmth. Other than wind there is virtual silence the entire night. Morning comes and travel resumes. A few days pass along this and the road's quality dips some. Victae says this is normal. The road is best maintained at either end, but the middle is sort of...there.
In the afternoon on the third day you hear some horsemen off in the distance in the direction you are approaching and hear some yelling and the clank of steel on steel. The noise is from beyond the turn.

Re: LPDnD: Hazy Shade of Winter
Is there snow on the road or just on the sides? Is it possible/viable for everyone to scatter to the sides of the road and get out of site without leaving a ton of tracks which would pretty much completely defeat the purpose of hiding?

Re: LPDnD: Hazy Shade of Winter
the road is mostly slush so no tracks would be easily discernable. Off the road you'd get untouched snow banks.

Re: LPDnD: Hazy Shade of Winter
Stavis will step off the road to at least get out of the way, if the group decides to hide will go along with that.
Re: LPDnD: Hazy Shade of Winter
Can we get more of a description of where we're at on the road in relation to the turn and what the terrain around us is like?
For what reason can't we see around the turn?
Should I be able to tell if the sounds are that of combat or just of a procession of mounted soldiers?
I would want to have someone sneak ahead depending on the layout of the land around us.

The road is along some rocky parts and there are large cliff like boulders(rocks that are like 50 ft tall, but not part of the "mountain") on the right, the road appears to be done in a way that would veer slightly to the left then strongly arc to the right around the "boulder". The boulder blocks your view. You hear metal on metal, in your professional assessment off taking a 10 on the perception it sounds very similar to sword on sword action.

Very quietly Trinal says "Well, that sounds interesting. Shall we investigate?"

"Time for Tony Plush to earn his money."
Tony will pull out the communication stone and keep it in 1 hand as I sneak forward on the road to scout.
Stealth: [dice]0[/dice]
Perception: [dice]1[/dice]
Note - I'm out and about so skill check ratings were done from memory, I suspect they are a little off, but if they are I erred on the side of them being lower than their actual rating.
Edit- Stealth is actually +20 and perception is +11 so those rolls should be 27 and 18 respectively.

Tony creeps up and pokes his head around the boulder and sees 3 mounted Chulussa mounted warriors fighting against some armored men, you don't recognize their dress or armor.

"I'd say so- we don't like the Chulassa much and maybe we can make some friends. We're moving up."
Trinal gestures to the rest of the group, and quietly says "3 mounted Chulassa are attacking 4 dismounted soldiers. No idea who the other guys are but we're gonna go piss in the Chulassa pot."
We'll move out to catch up, but quietly, maybe we can get the drop on these guys.

"Yes if lucky they are Citadel forces and can help use get into or atleast get word on our plan to build a gate."
Stavis will then get into stealth and help lead the group up to the fight.
