"Tony Plush concurs. The question Tony Plush has though is how likely is it that the Kings vault will be secured against unwanted intrusion? Maybe its the cynic in Tony Plush but some kind of trap or other security would not be a surprise."

[OOC one thing though Joun, it was never mentioned where the compensation was set to go with my question. I'm ok with the answer being to the exiled King, just Zelvo never mentioned where he wanted the funds to go in answer to my question.]

"Yes very true Tony."

Stavis will try and recall any of the normal traps and such used for a dwarf Kings vault.

[OOC let me know if that will require a roll for each.]

The party makes their way across teh great hall to the fallen throne. The chair itself looks pretty well picked apart. Examination shows where gold inlay and jewels would have been before pried out. Behind the throne is a door that is ajar. Inside are a few skeletons mummified and a vault door that has damage to it, but is unopened.

Trinal looks around, but doesn't step through the door.

"Tony, can you see any traps? This just looks too simple."

I'll check as well, although I don't know how effective I am in that sort of thing.

Trinal: the damage to the vault door looks like brute force attempts to open failed. And there is some charring as well indicating some sore of fire was used at some point.

I'm assuming no one has yet gone in.

Trinal says "It looks like there's scorching from a fire. What worries me is that there's several dead bodies in here, but if they were thieves simply thwarted by the door, why are they dead? My guess is a trap of some kind killed them as they tried to break in. Be careful."

"Unless the vault door requires kingly heritage to open the hope would be opening the door correctly doesn't activate the traps."

Stavis will approach the open door but not enter, to look for any visible signs of traps or any rubies. Not holding his breath finding any but would rather not have to open the vault door if they don't have to.

At Syric "Nah Lad. I wasn't in the King's inner circle so I don't know what was done back here."

Stavis looks around carefully and does not see any obvious signs of traps and sees no valuables on the floor or in the rubble.

Stavis will carefully enter if necessary, and will move all of the dead bodies to a safe location before searching them for any valuables. If any found that aren't the Rubies we are looking for will collect them in a pile to have Zelvo look over before taking any of it.

Perception to watch for any traps I might activate doing said task.

Athletic to move the bodies or first body if each requires a roll.
[dice]1[/dice]

Perception to collect any valuables, if I'm unable to tell if something is valuable I'll keep it on the body.

Stavis awkwardly pulls two bodies from teh room out. Neither are dwarves. Searching the bodies reveals no treasure, but there is a leather bound book with script in it. Thumbing through it it seems these two were thieves, probably drow, who were attempting to get into the vault. The attempts were to involve some gunpowder, but there was no text after that entry.

[OOC is the script in drow? AKA would showing Zelvo I can easily read it make it a little too obvious that I'm a drow?]

To people literate in Elvish it would be obvious that it is drow in nature. To illiterate it is just elvish gobbledygook.

Stavis in taking up the book and reading it can tell right away so quickly formulates a plan to share the knowledge of the book while keeping his true identity secrete if for appearances sake so as he seems to be flipping through it will make his way to Trinal saying "Not sure it its directly related to the thieves death but from what I can make out seem like they tried to use gunpowder to open the vault." once he is close enough to show Trinal the book as if they are collectively trying to read the book will in whisper "The thieves where Drow. So if this take long enough will want to be on watch for potentially others."

[OOC are there more then just the two bodies?]

After giving the book to Trinal will make his way to the door to examine it, on the way will pass by Syric or Tony and whisper to them the thieves being Drow. Once at the valt door will examine it for how to lawfully open the door in the hopes that any traps shouldn't be activated should they be able to open that way.

The various checks you do reveal two things. The vault has a magical ward on it, and after that is cleared (if you can clear it), the door to the vault has a series of nine knobs to adjust to set the combination before the vault will open.

Trinal moves his hands around and it reveals Dwarvish runes. Zelvo translates:

We hurt without moving. We poison without touching. We bear the truth and the lies. We are not to be judged by our size. What are we?
