Tony will give them a few minutes to see if they say anything of interest and if they do not then he will signal to Staris that it's time to move on and we'll sneak away.

The conversation basically is a grown man yelling at his son while trying to repair a cart.

Tony shakes his head no and slips away. Once we are a safe distance away...

"While Tony Plush would have liked to help them we would risk detection as well. The longer we remain unseen the better. We can help them more by completing our mission. And they were in no danger."

Stavis nod his head in understanding "Understood, the hope would have been getting intel on what is a head but since that is not guaranteed making haste is better."

Syric will pace aimlessly, looking for any signs of life in these charred remains. A sprout, a blade of grass, just something alive. He thinks back to the temple of Melora and remembers to take the long view. The forest would grow again in natures time, he assured himself.
Spoiler:
Within 5 squares of Syric: +1 to Healing surges, +3 Diplomacy, +2 Intimidate, +2 Speed on surprise and 1st regular rounds
Between 6-10 squares of Syric: +1 Diplomacy

Tony and Stavis return to the party. The walk through the ashen devastation continues.. The diversion to the north briefly eventually resumes to the NE.

The travelling continues for a few days. Nights are still and quiet. The days are barren and bleak. It is evident the fires were done in a systematic manner with an intent to destroy the forest.

On the morning of the fourth day you notice smoke plumes to the North, NW, and NE. These aren't teh curtains of smoke you saw before but more to the nature of cooking fires.

Joun, can you give us an updated location on the map?

"Ah, maybe we've found something to break up the monotony" says Syric, clearly itching for a fight.

Updated. Essentially you are close to the natural end of the forest. To the NE you have per the map, you'd likely have some grassland/farmland before you get to the mountains.

Gazing at the fires from a crouch, Trinal says quietly "Best we go east now and avoid who or whatever that is. I think we're well into enemy territory now. We can go east and then bear slightly north to get into the mountains."

About how far off are the smoke plumes?

"Do we want to scout them at all or just go around?"

Smoke plumes are about 1-2 miles out you'd guess at their closest. They do seem to form a curvy line. Like you might imagine cooking fires along a road.

"If those are cooking fires, they're for an army or other large gathering of people we don't want to meet. And they're likely to have scouts and pickets out. I suggest we simply avoid contact and move on as quietly and quickly as we can."

"So where should we go? If this is the front essentially we're going to have to walk by the line eventually." Victae says looking at the line of plumes.

"Well, armies can't be everywhere. And these are to the north, northwest and northeast- but there's nothing to the east. Perhaps we can move that way and skirt them, then move through the mountains."

"Honestly, if this is really the front then if we go east all we're likely to find are more camps. We're going to have to get past the line at some point. Strategically they are going to have their strongest defenses along the roads, so we should scout out some areas nearby away from the roads to find a location we can skip through the line. Tony Plush doesn't believe we should divert significantly from our route without examining our options for bypassing them here."

"I think that's borrowing trouble. Far simpler to just sneak past. In the event we do encounter a patrol or picket we cannot avoid, that might be an option. But I'd rather not have an army sending out more patrols to find the one that went missing. Best if we just stay out of sight and get into the mountains fast."

"I would also advise against looking for trouble as we where unable to stop the Drow patrol from signaling and I would suspect any patrol here is going to be larger then just three."

If there's cover nearby, i think we should wait until nightfall and move under cover of darkness to the east/northeast, skirting whatever the encampment is. If there is no cover or no reasonable amount of it, we should move now and try to slip past them, bearing northeast and easterly to skirt their position until we can bear northeast again.
