"If we keep this distance not likely. If we get closer we could be identified." Viggo says.
Vlad says "Should I pull down the sail? Or would that arouse suspicions?"

"There are about 7 sea forts. The plan was to see three today and four tomorrow." Viggo says.

"About 7? I thought you were a professional, Viggo!" Syric chides him jokingly. "What do you think would be best if we did skip this one, come back to it next or can we hit one of the others before it gets too late?" Syric looks to the others with a grin, "What do you think, should we just roll on in and see what happens?"

Is there anywhere nearby we could go ashore and approach by land?"

"Sailing by casually is fine, but these are all small islands that don't have much besides the fort. Sneaking on by land is rather difficult."

Viggo keeps the distance and starts the course to the next island.
The ships go to the island with sails down and you see men get off and head inside the fort.
"so what's the call gents, are we staying or going?" Vlad asks.

"Staying. We're here to gather intelligence and we aren't going to get it if we stay out here and avoid contact with any other individuals we encounter. If they are fisherman they may have seen something. If they are raiders then we defeat them and in so doing we capture and interrogate them."

"Okay so that island is a rock about a mile long, no real rocky coves to hide into. The fort is on one side by the dock. Not essential we dock to land, but making a quick escape if necessary is only added by a dock. It looks to be mid afternoon. We see two boats docked at the moment, we don't know if any more are on their way. What is the plan?" Vlad asks.

"How many people can they fit on those boats? I don't want to be foolhardy, but if we can take them we should go in. If the numbers are against us we can come back to this island later and see what clues they may have left behind."

"Unless additional boats are tieing directly to boats already tied to the dock they have room for 1 more boat at best as the dock seems to be rather small.
Though I am for caution as well we have the issue of if they don't ever leave coming back will put us back the same situation with the potential less favorable conditions of seeing additional ships in the area."

"now or later, it does not matter. Lets get this fort over with. We will prep for cover fire as we approach. Can we sail right up to the dock, or should we row in?"

should we row in we should be able to have 1 or 2 people ready for discouraging attacks directed towards us while we are still a ways out.

So, last time we had a fort issue, we went a head against staggeringly bad odds.
Now we have another chance, and we're trying to prove we deserve another chance, so we're doing the same. damn. thing.
Am I summarizing this correctly?

I agree with dood; gathering intel is one thing and knowing they are here should mean something. Two dozen warriors is not something we could easily handle.

[ooc]Then I guess for the rest of the campaign we should run the second we see someone who might oppose us...that'll be a lot of fun...
But hey, if you roaches all want to go scurrying for cover the second the lights go on then by all means, mine is but one voice in the collective.[/ooc]

"We could stay at range and do a night time approach on the side of the rock away from the dock. Do some sneaky recon?" Victae says to no one in particular.

"Ok, so best case scenario is we're getting worried about some fisherman. Worst case scenario is 24 trained mercenaries just docked at a manned outpost with an undetermined amount of warriors already there waiting..."
