"Tony Plush, small village in another kingdom, Avandra, and Phoenix Guard. Okay that just leaves you two." Viggo says pointing towards Syric and Trinal.

"Syric, village smartass, Melora and Kord and I'll assume Phoenix Guard as well. Very nice. See that wasn't so painful. I'll be back momentarily with the chief minister, and despite....Trinal's trepidation about managing the bureaucracy the Duke rarely does anything the chief minister doesn't suggest so that is in fact who you want to be speaking with. Good day." Viggo says before withdrawing.

HE will be gone for about 10 minutes if you guys want to have a brief chat before he returns. (no post or whatever by 8pm cst tonight and I'll advance)

I have Spintik with Stavis in sort of a shadow sniper role. If that is incorrect he gave his name rank snark and serial number. Otherwise the Jester and the Fool are out and about where exactly?

Stavis and Spintik wander around generally in view of each other. Stavis plays sings little songs in the street and juggles what he can find, makes a few puns. Spintik manages to find an armor who is interested in his used leather armor, but isn't sure he has enough money to buy it for what it is worth and offers 150gp.

During the course of the milling about in normal neighborhoods you definitely get the sense of uneasiness about the situation. The city had been relatively peaceful from raiding since Sir Boic so the news of new marauders is unsettling for many people who don't have first hand experience with being subject to a city raid. The tales of the old timers probably doesn't help them much. The marauders are by reputation mead swilling, take anything not nailed down, rape and pillage sorts. A good parallel in our world would be vikings. The stories describe men who get rallied into a frenzy and unleash unholy hell. The name you hear in these descriptions over and over again is Mumford. He is rallying the groups together, and he is the one who is introducing new ideas to them.

@Syric, Tony, Trinal, Hammon, Victae

Viggo returns with a man who looks more or less like this:

Image

He has a pleasant and polite demeanor nodding in respect in introduction.

"Hello gentlemen and lady, I'm Chief Minister Schinn Cielor. Viggo here tells me you are some sort of guard wishing to assist the Duke in light of the marauder threat. Well that does seem a capital idea, and I'm not one to turn down assistance. But before we begin I'd like to ask you a few questions if I may. Um Viggo can you go fetch us a pot of tea and some bread." He says with Viggo bowing and quickly taking his leave.

"I'd like to inquire what sort of experience you bring to the task, expectations of reward, and your thoughts on loyalty to employ."

"Greetings, Minister. Our experience is significant, having dealt with everything from vampires to a barbarian horde to most recently a minotaur and the denizens of his labyrinth. Although not the equal in sheer combat power of, say, a mercenary company, we are quite capable in our own way. Consider us specialists.

As to other questions...In this matter, we have no expectations of reward, and in fact if we receive no information here we will simply proceed as best we can by gathering information on our own. It may seem odd, but we did not come here seeking employment, but rather to ask for information so that we can proceed most efficiently as we believe that our interests align with the Duke's in this matter. If compensation is offered we would not disdain it, and while in most cases we would seek remuneration, this is a... "
Trinal smiles. "special case. We are pursuing this matter because we believe the leadership of the raiders to be potentially in league with dark powers that we have run across previously, who bear no good will to the decent people of any land."

Trinal looks at the company, then back at the minister. "To answer the question of loyalty, we are loyal to each other, to our mission and to our employer, but in the larger context, we are loyal to the struggle against evil, and we fight it where we may, especially where it threatens decent folk."

Diplomacy: d20+16=4+16=20

[ooc no worries about pissiness. It allowed me to be snarky with Viggo which was fun.]

"Ah very well, the noble do gooders of good or some such. I am not apt to take a gift and squander it. The intelligence we have acquired is that Mumford is a charismatic leader rallying the remnants of the marauding bands that were smashed by Sir Boic, may he rest in peace, way back. Mumford sees himself as best we can figure as some kind of true believer in an old god. He is devious, cunning, boastful, and has tremendous brawn if the reports are to be believed. What I fear is that he is not planning an attack, but rather play a feint to achieve some other plan. We unfortunately don't know. Rumor has it that he is scouting out the old sea forts to relocate, but I don't know how much stock to put into that. Maybe what we need is a proper intelligence gathering if you can manage. As you seek no explicit reward I will simply say that should your service prove useful to the Duke and the city you will be compensated fittingly. I will instruct Viggo to act as liaison between you and myself. Any time you need to talk to me come to the gate and ask for Viggo, and he will get me at my earliest chance. Any questions?" the Chief Minister says.

At the words "old god", Trinal looks at the rest of the group with his eyebrows raised.

"That seems reasonable, Minister. We thank you. Would you agree that starting with looking into these old sea forts you mention might be a good start? And if so, is there a map or other information as to their locations?"

"I'll have Viggo and his brother Vlad prep a long boat scouting ship for you and act as guides. Come back in the morning and we can get things underway." The minister smiles.

Viggo returns with the tray with tea.

"Viggo my boy, you'll be assisting the Phoenix guard here on some scouting expeditions of the abandoned sea forts. Get your brother Vlad, and have a scout ship prepped for the morning." The minister says.

Viggo glares at Trinal a half second.
"I would be delighted." And he leaves the room.

"Ah. Lovely, thank you. We shall return in the morning, then. Our thanks and regards to yourself and the Duke."

Trinal makes a courtesy to the minister and prepares to depart.

[ooc- Unless anyone else has objections, should we head back to the inn?]

The gang of 5 (minus stavis and spintik) head to the inn. The place is pretty deserted as it is now mid afternoon.

"Hello gents and lady. Name is Bran. This is the Leaping Salmon Inn. How might I be of assistance?" The bartender asks as you re-enter the place.
