I'm assuming the meeting is breaking up at this point, hence me excusing myself. My preparations to leave basically involve me going back to The Mighty Elk, get my pack, swing by the store to buy a few extra items for the trip then back for us to move out.
Tony Plush's shopping list:
Tent
Crossbow
Crossbow bolts (20) x2
Everburning Torch
Trail rations (10 days)
Silk rope (50')
total cost if it's all available per PHB: 102 gold
Also as an aside, have I mentioned how irritating I find it that you can't use sneak attack with a shortbow or longbow?
All shopping is available, however it takes 90 minutes not the hour you promised.

I currently have the barbarian defense mission standing at:
stavis
Spintik
Syric
Trinal
Tony
Let me check with Reese and Dood. I can make this big enough for the 9 heroes.

"Well then I think we are in agreement. The only thing left we will need from you your lordship would be documents to give to the guards, so they know our intentions are honorable. Would hate to arrive and then be jailed til word can be sent here and back to ensure we aren't spies or the like. Also since we are taking horses would be able to bring extra supplies for the guards if there is a need for such."
Stavis will then stand and bow once more to the Earl. "If you will excuse me I also have some things to collect before we head off."
Stavis list:
Crossbow 25gp
Crossbow Bolt 40 2gp
Horse feed 2 bags 8sp *as per Joun*

Take half of what the PHB says it would cost to buy those items.

Trinal will buy a week's worth of rations and a couple of feedbags for his horse, once he gets it.
One assumes that these horses come with tack and saddle, etc?

[OOC DM moment: We are headed to the fort en masse and will in all likely hood engage in combat. Having said that I'm sure you guys will find a way to make that not happen. When that happens, I hate you.
Having said that if we get into combat I'd like to review a few key combat features.
First: concealment. Being behind a wall/barrel etc you get +2 to your defense, but suffer no penalty to attacks.
Second: Mounted combat. You guys are on riding horses. Warhorses are different, more experienced for combat, stronger, armored etc. They aren't as fast as riding horses, but they do have attacks. Riding horses are built for speed and speed alone. they do not have any sort of special attack. So unlike say a drake as a mount you don't have a breath weapon at your disposal (gobo's personal excluded). You will not suffer any penalty to attacks while using a weapon on horseback. If you are normally attck +7 on ground you are here too. That can change depending on the circumstances of the terrain. For example if you are trying to shoot an arrow on horseback while the horse is dealing with a slippery gravel slide, you will take -2 to your attack roll. Same goes for if your square is on fire which this being a grassland area is a possibility.
Third: Speaking of grassland fires. I will apply the following rules for grass fires. If a square is on fire any adjacent squares have a chance 1 per round of also catching on fire. You can as a standard action extinguish a square of fire with your cloak(obviously not on horseback). This chance increases if it is dry, decreases drastically it it is raining. I will roll for weather like I have been on travel days.]

Remember...XP is not for killing an encounter, it is given for DEFEATING the encounter. So for example if I give a Krayt Dragon call and run off the barbarian scouting party I have defeated them and therefore full XP would be awarded.
Just sayin....

Sand Barbarians are easily startled, but they'll soon be back, and in greater numbers.

I've got some work to do but we'll "head out" to the prairie over the weekend. The battlemap will probably be multiple pages if we stick with the standard 20x20 grids like we have been up to

I should set up an arena on the Minecraft server where we can move stuff around to represent our icons.

Ham'mon will take the same payment.
He'll buy some sour red ale and similar wine and top off rations.
He'll sell his old sword and give the money to the first indigent he sees.

Okay resuming.
The Earl writes and seals a letter which is given to Tony Plush to present to the Captain of the fort.
The gang packs up and heads out. It will be three days ride (with camping out at night).
Day 1 of journey
The weather is fair. Not a cloud in the sky, a pleasant breeze. As you ride out east you pass various farms and the trees are still pretty plentiful. You pass the occasional travelling farmer, but the road isn't particularly traveled today.
As you approach the end of the day you guys break for camp.

Did the Professor and Victae join us or are only the PCs along for this leg of the journey?
