Once things calm down a little, Trinal will find a chair and make himself comfortable. He'll forgo the ale at this point.
The books are a lot of histories, a few plays, a couple collections of poems.
I'll take a look at the history titles, see if there's anything interesting.

Brago looks over the assembled members giving himself a moment to appraise the lot of you.
"As I said welcome. I am master Brago Truque. My business is one of providing provisions both locally for the farmers and merchants in the area, but also on contract for Baron Thurston Howell and Earl Karlykyns to fulfill their provision requirements for the Duke and King. As part of this I have a blacksmithing operation that has recently been robbed.
A thing you need to know about the provisions contract is that goods are paid for when they show a stamp of the provider. mine is a lovely flower which was most pleasing to my late wife."
He passes around a stir up which on it's side shows an impression which looks like a tulip.
"The Baron and Earl pay us post inspection on the goods. The do a count of the items that show the symbol of our company or production house, then send back the rejects with payment for the accepted ones.
Recently, and on more than one occasion, and nasty dwarf on the outskirts of the county have stolen my near finished bridles, stir ups, and some wagon hitches. They were supposed to be stamped the next day, but those damn robbers took them from our blacksmith.
What I want is some revenge on this. I want their furnace destroyed. If nothing else, make sure that furnace is no more. If you can get them to never work again, even better. If you can recover some of the stolen goods, that would be good too. But my primary concern is for them to stop being able to stamp my work."
He finishes his speech a bit riled up, to the point of spittle coming out with each sentence.

Trinal smiles and puts on the charm. "That's quite a lot to simply walk away with. Can we assume that this dwarf is not operating alone? "
Trinal wonders if the good Master Torque is being completely forthright. He keeps a friendly smile on his face, but is paying very close attention.

Just as the Brago complete's his speech the door sweeps open again...
"Tony Plush professional gentleman of leasure at your service sir! I believe you were just saying something about some baditry? Please continue, I'd apologize for my tardiness but good help is hard to find and mine seemed to think get me up in time for a sundown meeting meant get me up at sundown."
Tony saunters over to the table, pours himself a drink and gestures to Brago to continue

Brago Truque looks stunned at the late comer. Silent. Just jaw dropped in awe and confusion.
After he recovers with a small shake of his head.
"As I was saying, the robbers are on the outskirts of the county operating a furnace to imprint my goods with their mark so they get paid. The sheriff is of no help on this, believe me, I've tried. If you guys can get his operation shut down you will be looking at 200g each. And I'll give you 10g for each crate recovered."

"How was this individual able to make off with so much of your goods? It seems that it must be a sizable operation if there is that much materiel at issue, and one would imagine that there is more than just a lone dwarf to confront, no? "

Stavis puts his stein down looks to Syric "I doubt it is quite that simple Syric." then looks back to Brago "By shut down am I to assume more then just a stern talking to and recovery of said goods. Seeing as they have a brand them-self, suggests to at least some they are legitimate operation and their sudden shut down my have some calling for answers and justice, especially should they be found dead." pausing "Can those that agree on this quest be given assurances that they will receive no fall out should the group be found killed by apparent bandits."

"Everytime I've asked him to investigate, he rides out there, comes back and says he can't find any evidence and then asks me to stop wasting his time. I've pleaded, begged, and chased after him, he just seems either incapable of doing his job or unwilling. I can't decide which."

"Like I said I want their furnace destroyed. If they can't properly heat the smithed work, they can't remark it as theirs. That will be enough to stop them for a long while. If you rough them up, that's fine by me. If you should kill them, I will gladly stand as character witnesses, and gather as many resources as I can to defend your actions to the baron. I just want this robber to stop taking my goods."

"So what you're saying is that the sheriff is either on the take, a dimwit or protecting the gang for some personal reason. And that if we go out there and it turns to a fight and after we finish killing them all that you'll put in a good word about the character of the group of drifters who just came to town and you paid to solve a problem for you if the local law enforcement decides they want to fit us all for custom nooses. Tony Plush can see how that would work well for us and ever better for you."
I'll be watching Brago very closely to guage his reaction to that statement to see if I think he's on the level or planning to hang us out to dry if it does turn bloody.
I forgot my dice at home unfortunately , Insight is untrained, so d20+1.

"Look, I like the sheriff, he is a good man, don't get me wrong. But he is old and in his ways, and won't act without evidence. And evidence is something that Heppil to date has been very good at covering up. If you want, go ask the sheriff if I've been by and get his thoughts on the matter. The job offer is open to you gents, unless someone else takes me up on it. I'm just tired of him getting away with this and am willing to pay a big payout to people who make that happen."

"Fair enough. So what is your personal relationship with this dwarf? It seems to me there are tons of easier ways to make coin than to go through all the trouble he is to hurt you personally.
And how many are in his gang? Can you show us where his forge is on a map? Oh, and there is a not so minor point about payment that needs to be cleared up, such as how much you are paying up front. Tony Plush is a professional, but Tony Plush also doesn't work for free. If you want me to put this pretty face in harms way then Tony Plush is going to need some of his fee up front."

"The dwarf's brother and I used to be business partners ten years ago. When his brother died of conmsuption [ooc: tuberculosis] Heppil expected to be taken on as a partner. But I didn't need a partner at that time as money was tight and Heppil had never worked with us, but he still expected a large salary. I flat out denied him the job.
As for the size of his gang, I think he keeps maybe four or five thugs on his purse if the rumors Drayson gives are accurate. As for pay I had intended to pay at the rears, but if you need money upfront I suppose we could come to some escrow agreement. While you expect to get paid for work, I expect work to be done for pay."

Stavis gives a minor look of scorn to Tony at his complete lack of diplomacy is asking the question, though quickly removes it. "Though my friend here could use some manors in his delivery, would 120g to be split how every amongst the group that agrees satisfactory?"

Gobo Fraggle had been in the back sipping the ale that was so kindly offered.
"Good sir, it seems by your account you have a very dishonorable thief who needs to be taught a lesson. As for his thug acquaintances, likely a simple solution as Gobo seemed to flex however, I have concerns that the local law enforcement is not up to his task. Perhaps he should be convinced to hand those duties off to a more able individual." Gobo's eyes gave a look of true sincerity.
"My family would feel me not right in my scales if I did not assist a good businessman from being harmed. I am humbled to be a member of this squad"
Gobo continued sipping ale and looking rather uncomfortable whenever conflict is mentioned.

Tony gives Stavis a level look... "I'm sorry, we're friends now? Tony Plush is a lot of things but he's pretty sure your friend isn't one of them since this is the first time we've ever spoken. Now don't get Tony Plush wrong, he has no problem with you beyond your overestimation of our current companionship level, but let's dial that down for now and we can worry more about your proposal, which Tony Plush is a fan of. 10% down seems more than reasonable to me."
