Name that app

Post by Gandolfini » Tue Oct 05, 2010 7:44 pm

I have written an application for Windows Phone 7 that had the working title of "App2". However, I need come up with a better name.

The application has two purposes. The first is that there is a catalog of cocktails where you can add your own and attach picture of the drink as the background. The second purpose is that you can also log the drinks you have consumed and it will calculate your approximate BAC, the time until you are under the legal limit to drive and the time until you have a zero BAC.

I've been knocking around "Drinking Buddy" as the name but I'm not really excited about that name.

Any ideas?

Add a button to call a cab if you are over the legal limit in the area (obviously you will need to do the GPS thingy). And call it Designated Driver!

If you're going to call it "Wingman", have some sort of feature to distract a desireable lady's ugly friends.

EDIT: How about "Barstar"?

Don't forget tons of disclaimers saying that you're not responsible for people's stupidity and that the app is in no way an accurate depiction, otherwise you could get sued.

Oh, and I kinda like 'iWingman'.

I like "Alvis Drinks"

I 2nd the nomination for the disclaimer. If someone gets in a wreck and kills someone because your app said they were legal, you will get totally sued.

Alvian (or Alvis's) Bible

And if you use that then it's a moral imperativbe to make the BAC caculator into a button that asks, "Am I fighting drunk?"

Add a camera functionality to the app where the person takes a picture of someone else and it calculates how many more drinks they need before that person is attractive.

Spoiler: The answer should always be 1 more (insert your corporate sponsor brand item here)

Example: 1 more Budweiser or Bud Light.

Are you making allowances for variances in ABV? E.G. a Manhattan made with Rittenhouse will come in at a different ABV than one made with Rittenhouse Bonded because the Bonded is coming in at 50% ABV vs. the usual 40%.

I know I'm being evil. I just don't care.

Yes, fEvil fDingleberry.

When a user enters a custom drink, they specify the drink volume and the ABV. If they really want to improve accuracy they would do this for each ingredient. In your example above they would enter 2 oz at .5 ABV and 1 oz at .2 ABV. Or they could just add 2 oz at .5 ABV and be close enough.

If the user adds a drink from the menu, the alcohol volume for the drink is listed.

If they want more accuracy, they should use a breathalyzer. If they are too cheap to buy one, the police will be more than happy to provide one after they get pulled over.

My brother prolly has one installed in his car/truck and he lives in Austin, or some city-state in south austin or something. I bet he'd let you use it.

The formula for calculating BAC is pretty standard. It isn't like I need to have a few drinks and compare the breathalyzer results to the program.

On the other hand, I could write it off as a business expense.
