New car?
Ok, so I need some help with a decision. I know which way I'm leaning but I want some input from the peanut gallery.
I have the opportunity to either get a 2011 Dodge Nitro Detonator (http://www.jaxcjdr.com/new/Dodge/2011-D ... d6ee76.htm).
Or a 2011 Dodge Challenger R/T (http://www.orangeparkdodge.com/new/Dodg ... story=true)
Pros
Challenger - it's a fucking challenger... really do I need to list them?
Nitro - Less expensive insurance, better gas mileage, more ability to multi-task with the vehicle, fits better for me due to being a gentleman of larger stature, I can upgrade the audio/video package to the 30gb model mp3 holder, I can get this vehicle at the beginning of October if I want.
Cons
Challenger - Insurance is $100+ a month more than the Nitro, gas mileage is kinda the suck, I drive like a maniac already. When I had a 08 hyundai accent I regularly pushed it close to 90 and then some, I really don't need an engine twice the size of the other one to be even stupider with.
Nitro - It's not a challenger, it's a crossover SUV so the cool factor drops a bit, if I want this vehicle I need to wait till the beginning of 2011 to get access to an employee discount certificate that would make a giant difference in the price.

Re: New car?
I'd love a Challenger myself, but voted Nitro from the economic perspective. Though I think there's better SUV/Crossover options out there instead of the Nitro (are you locked to Dodge?), I think they're fugly myself. For that kind of coin, go for a Nissan Murano.

Re: New car?
If I want to use the corporate discount which is why it will be bought and paid in full no financing for either option I need to go dodge. If I were to stray from dodge $24k would be my max limit. I don't mind the murano, but I really like the styling of the Nitro, and the interior is extremely nice in my opinion.

Challenger, satin black finish.

You're married now so you don't really get a choice. It's the Nitro for you, buddy! I had to sell my goddamn Camaro for a Forrester, so damned if you get a challenger.

It is a nice Forrester...Happyclam wrote:You're married now so you don't really get a choice. It's the Nitro for you, buddy! I had to sell my goddamn Camaro for a Forrester, so damned if you get a challenger.

New car?
Just to clarify I've been divorced since November. So I get what I want.Happyclam wrote:You're married now so you don't really get a choice. It's the Nitro for you, buddy! I had to sell my goddamn Camaro for a Forrester, so damned if you get a challenger.
Re: New car?
Jeez, that didn't last long. Ok, get the challenger and pick up all the guys you want.

Re: New car?
Last night Arrican and I talked it over, after being described as Spock to his Kirk, it was pretty obvious he wants the Challenger way more. So I told him "sounds like you are looking for reassurance that you should should buy the challenger". I told him assuming the money difference isn't going to affect him adversely (see SirP's economical argument above) that he should just get the Challenger since if he "settles" for the Nitro he won't be as happy and be grumbling and wondering "what if I had got the challenger".

Re: New car?
If you can afford the insurance, and it's increase when you get your many speeding tickets, and the gas, get the Challenger. I just think paying $1000 more a year in insurance and Alvis-knows-how-much more on gas should have serious consideration. You don't want to be the guy with the sweet ride that can't go anywhere because it's too expensive to drive. I also look at factors like hauling crap in it... how pissed will you be when it gets its first scratch... how likely is it to be stolen... A grand is a LOT of alcohol you won't be putting in your belly.

I've gotten a Nitro as a rental and I thought it sucked personally. I thought it was fugly.

Re: New car?
SirP to show how much I am in your mode of thought. I got a Prius for the gas mileage and low insurance. It is nice filling up twice a month instead of weekly like my last car

Re: New car?
I'm looking at 150cc Scooters as a mode of transport. 90 MPG, 45-55 MPH top speed depending on the model. They're considered motorcycles so I can use it to get my license endorsement in advance of a "real" bike, hopefully in a year or two. Insurance is about $100 a year. Best of all, since it's fall, I can get a brand new one delivered to my door and insured for under a grand. The only thing that will suck is the snow, but it's got tires the same size as most compact cars (13") so it may actually do fine unless it's several inches, and we only get that a couple times a year, as long as I stick to the main roads (or finally move the hell out of Ohio). But as long as I work within a mile or so, I can always walk.Blackferne wrote:SirP to show how much I am in your mode of thought. I got a Prius for the gas mileage and low insurance. I'm just overly practical. I get what I fit in due to my size, and that usually excludes me from anything "cool". Trucks and full-size cars are about it, and even then the "ergonomics" of the damn dash/console make it impossible for me to get my foot on the gas in most of them. I'm seriously considering a minivan because they're cheaper than SUVs and Pickups but get decent gas mileage and are cheap to insure. I look at the $1000 difference in insurance alone and thing "how much stuff could I buy for that grand?" A nice laptop, new cell phone AND a HDTV... build a new gaming PC... a nice vacation (like a cruise or even a trip to Europe with the deals they have going on). Granted, I'm at the low-income end of the spectrum so my options are much more limited, but even if I had the cash, I probably would be more practical than impulsive.
So yeah, I'm a cheap bastard.

Re: New car?
Challenger looks cool.
I drive a Pathfinder, and only put gas in it once a month. Half a mile round trip to work and back is pretty nice. 2004 Nissan Pathfinder with only 36000 miles on it. I just never leave city limits.

New car?
Can you find a used SRT Chally for a similar price? They go like raped apes. I've got the Jeep with the same engine as the SRT Challenger and it's ridiculously fast and fun (0-60 in 4.19 s at 2200 ft and 13.49s 1/4 mile). Gas mileage is the only con (11-12mpg) but it's worth it.

Re: New car?
One problem I see with the Challenger is that it's automatic. Really, if you're gonna go with a fast car, you have to get manual, otherwise you're just a pussy.
Re: New car?
In our last chat he said he's getting the Challenger R/T Classic. We agreed any color looks good but yellow.

Re: New car?
The SRT Chally is available in a 6-speed.Happyclam wrote:One problem I see with the Challenger is that it's automatic. Really, if you're gonna go with a fast car, you have to get manual, otherwise you're just a pussy.

Honestly you couldn't pay me to buy a Dodge.
Well, that's not true....it would depend on how much you were paying me.

Re: New car?
I guess I'm a pussy, and I'll take that title since I can't drive stick.
Unfortunately the srt8 is about $10k more than the r/t. So I'll save the $10k and get nice rims, or something.

It looks like that as long as my van makes it to January, I'll go with the challenger. So here's hoping!
