All advanced class names revealed

Post by Furiel » Wed Aug 18, 2010 2:46 pm

UPDATE 8/18: Advanced Class Names Revealed in Press Presentations

Imperial Agent - Operative (uses blaster rifle or energy blade, stealth, burst ranged damage) & Sniper (dps - counterpart of Gunslinger)
Sith Inquisitor - Sorcerer (force damage, single bladed lightsaber) & Assassin (double bladed lightsaber, stealth, burst damage)
Bounty Hunter - Powertech & Mercenary
Jedi Consular - Shadow (double-bladed lightsaber) & Wizard (healing / single lightsaber)
Trooper - Commando (tank) & Vanguard

Personally I really hope that some of these are placeholders, but since they have been revealed I don't think they have. I gotta be honest, some of them are shit IMO. Sorcerer? Really? That's the best you could do? Powertech? C'mon. Shadow and Wizard? Failsauce. And don't get me started on Commando is the tank AC and Vanguard is the DPS one for the Trooper.

Bioware...you can do better that this.

DPS - Furiel: Commando, T'ony: Slinger, Kessilee: VG, Ziraava: Sent
Tank - Montae: Shadow, Gaen: Guardian
Heals - Kam'ryn: Sage, Sabran: Soundrel

They just didn't mention it. Remember, we already have documented evidence of SI's have the Dark Gift healing ability. They just didn't list it in the abilities list.

IA Operative and SI Sorcerer are going to be the Imperial healers, just as the Smuggler Scoundrel and JC Wizard will heal for the Republic. Class mirrors and all that...

In defense of these silly names.
Uncle Owen: That old man's just a crazy old wizard. Tomorrow I want you to
take that R2 unit into Anchorhead and have its memory flushed. That'll
be the end of it. It belongs to us now.
MOTTI: Don't try to frighten us with your sorcerer's ways, Lord Vader.
Your sad devotion to that ancient religion has not helped you conjure
up the stolen data tapes, or given you clairvoyance enough to find the
Rebel's hidden fort...
Though the interesting thing is that the names and who they referred to indicates both Darth Vader and ObiWan rerolled classes between Episode 3 and 4.

At least they didn't have them cross-faction...

Also keep in mind in WoW I tell people I play a mage, rarely do I go so far to say "Arcane specced mage" so who cares what the advanced classes are named.

See above for Uncle Owen quote to justify the term. I mean would this face be wrong about anything?

Yes - he told Luke his father was a navigator on a spice freighter and if we learned anything it's that what Uncle Owen told Luke about his father was a load of bullshit

That's also because in WoW all 3 mage specs have 1 job, do damage. If you were to go LFG in server channels with a shaman or druid for example you would have to mention your spec because their spec determines their role.

ToR is the same way, your role in the group will be determined by your AC, not just by your class. I envision that ToR's LFG will almost have to be something like JK-Guard or just Guardian LFG because just saying JK LFG won't differentiate you enough to know are you a tank or DPS specced and as such I don't know if I can take you or not. I mean a gunslinger or shadow MAY be able to heal you through an instance for example depending on the gear of the tank and it's difficulty, but if I'm tanking in mediocre gear and that instance is kinda difficult, I'm going to want a scoundrel or wizard as healer and I won't know if you are that if you are advertising just by saying Smuggler or JC LFG.

So if these are accurate and highlight all of their core abilities I feel almost bad for the Sith side - they are SOOO short of healing archtypes that I can see where they might have issues with raid content depending on it's design.
