I was playing with my son on the other server we run on- he's a Jedi Knight and I'm a Smuggler and we level together (which is a hell of a lot of fun, by the way and I recommend it to anyone). We're going along and at some point we kill a random mob on Coruscant down in the Works, I think, and it had a purple beam coming from it. I go to loot it and it's a lightsaber called "Forceslayer", which has 3 augment slots. Its stats were better than either of his regular sabers (both orange items) and it had an orange color crystal.
Questions:
Is this thing moddable like orange items? He could look at the mod interface on it, which seemed to imply it was.
If so, is it just like an orange item in that it gets its stats from its mods or does it have an intrinsic boost that makes it better?
It is damn sexy, regardless. I'd never seen anything like it drop, so I was curious.

Re: Someone explain purple items to me
If I am understanding correctly:
Orange fully moddable
Purple mostly moddable, but has some stats you can't pry out of there.
Blue mostly intrinsic stats and sometimes moddable.
Green never modable.

Sad, then- I had hoped that purple was rarer than orange. You can get orange items from pretty much any vendor, which means stuff like this one just work for a level or two and then are just trash.

Well purples are still exceptionally good for their level. And you can rip the mods out of them and put them in orange pieces you like the look of. In end game though purple operation drops will stat wise be better than orange stuff or so they've said.

Purple mod-able ARE rarer than oranges... oranges are craftable, mod-able purples are loot only. Currently, purples will have a mod and enhancement slot. Some will be better than what you can get at the respective tier, some won't be (I've looted a helm that was 2 armor less than my orange with level 50 daily mods in it). The purple CRAFTED gear has no mod slots (augment only on a critical craft), and the level 50 purple crafted gear is BoP... so, yeah...
They are going to be changing in the future (not sure if it'll be 1.1 or 1.2 or some other point) so the Commendation/Crystal/Token gear purples will be 4 mods like the oranges (not sure if they're doing it for all looted purples or not)... except they come with purple mods and oranges have no mods. The point is to be able to remove the Armor/Barrel/Hilt and transfer the end-game set bonuses to Orange armor sets, as well as transfer of the color crystals from the purple/cyan/red-black weapons. Orange armor is gimped at 50, because only end-game sets have the bonus and there's no other way to get that at present time.
I can't wait until the fix the loot drops and chests... I did Battle for Ilum and The False Emperor tonight with a group of Unrepentant and only 2 items that had stats I needed dropped and only one I actually kept... it was all +aim gear
Though I did get another title... "Throne Breaker"

Tell me about it. As a Trooper all I ever see is +Cunning equipment or +Strength. It's like they want me to be a sad ewok.Sir Psyko wrote:Purple mod-able ARE rarer than oranges... oranges are craftable, mod-able purples are loot only. He's exactly correct. Purple is rarer and often has better stats than Orange, but Orange is fully moddable. But Oranges come in handy pre-50 if you really like how something looks. You can just keep swapping out the mods to better ones to stay on par equipment wise.
Great for myself, as to be perfectly honest, I despise Knight robes. I hate them, my Sentinel looks like a space monk. I plan on getting my hands on some Orange Smuggler gear and replacing the mods in it. That way I can look like Jaden Korr from Jedi Academy as opposed to Sentinel #8596895batman_symbol76985986.
Yes, you read that number correctly.
