I believe it will be pretty wel balanced at launch, maybe a slight advantage to Sith in terms of power and a slight advantage to Republic in terms of numbers.
I'm fairly certain that the mirrors are pretty equal. Force Lightning looks more powerful than the Consular pebble and rock throw, but I bet if you looked at the numbers they probably are identical.

And the only difference is energy damage vs kinetic damage, so depending on how armor resists are on targets they should be equal.

I guess my point is actually that the Sith seem to have 2 advantages at this point 1)an illusion of power and 2)numbers.
We should all know better on point 1, and point 2 is something we will rally against.

If we go esthetics then the Sith are going to win by a landslide because the Sith get alot of the cooler attack animations AND they also generally have cooler looking armor sets. Especially if you look at the Consular at all, the JC armor sets are a fashion and esthetic disaster.
And force lightning > rock throwing 1000 out of 100 times, but the JC TK ability that looks like a white ball exploding and killing people is very Street Fighter-esque and looks pretty kick ass.

I didn't mean to imply the sides weren't balanced or anything. But a lot of people are going to want to be Sith just so they can go Wayne Vader on a b--.

Cmon. We all know that the server is going to be 75% glowbats and 25% blasters. Sith will outnumber Republic because they look cooler. Remember, today's casuals grew up with the prequels.

Greetings you drunken, hot pants wearin', Galactic Republic dogs! It's been a long time!
Good to see The Church once again. I see D'oh got a hold of you JB. Looking forward to getting a good server community going through events and PvP nights.
If all goes to plan, this server is looking to be a good one, with a lot of good people on it.
Feel free to stop in on our forums any time, and have a Bantha Milk on me.

Welcome you chicken force choking, goth wannabe, Sithy. I'm really excited to have the possibility of our server shaping up to how it could be based on the guild alliance map I did earlier. We could have a lot of fun.
You are always welcome to harass us here as well.

Was looking at that list, a few familiar names on there if they are the same folks I'm thinking of. Could shape up to be a nice server indeed. Here's hoping.
This is just one chain tho, no idea how many others will be imported as well. Then you have the non guilded that will fill in the cracks. So hopefully, BW will do a good job of balancing it out between factions before the cracks get filled.

As the Alvian Representative in Unrepentant, I look forward to our future collaboration in showing these Republic dogs the true meaning of... something... sorry, I forgot what I was going to say... oh, drinking!

Today we are announcing that the Pre-Launch Guild Program for Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ has come to an end. Guilds that have met the prerequisite of having four members redeem their Pre-Order Codes at our Code Redemption Center are now locked for transfer into the game in time for our December 20th launch.
If your guild has qualified for import, you can expect to receive an email at some time over the next several days. This email will give you further details on how to check the status of your guild as well as further details about how to join your guild once you’re in the game. Your email will also tell you which server your guild has been assigned to, so you will know which one to select when Early Game Access begins. While we will do everything we can to ensure that your Allies and Adversaries are on your server with you, we can’t necessarily guarantee that every guild will see their Allies and Adversaries on their server with them.
We want to thank each and every one of you who took part in the program, and we look forward to seeing you all in the game!

Emphasis mine.
Soon we shall have a server name.

We will need an aptly inappropriate naming convention for our characters.
