Re: More on crafting
That's freaking awesome. Man I can't wait.
Re: More on crafting
That looks like something from Kitsu Saga.
Re: More on crafting
It's interesting and with the ability to only do one crafting discipline per crew and six disciplines to choose from unless you duplicate classes there is no way for one person to do all crafting types so it looks like they are forcing interdependance that way.

Re: More on crafting
As a crafter, I'm not very happy. I don't want to delegate my crew to craft stuff for me. I want to craft. They can do the gathering, but they're not making my stuff.
This is more disappointing than space combat for me. Unless the open Beta (or I get in closed Beta) or a free trial blow me away, it's not looking good.

Re: More on crafting
I like the shot of the player walking out of the ship and turning out the lights while his crew is still working.
Also, did anyone else notice the 'Han in Carbonite' sitting in his ship? I want!

Re: More on crafting
I'm sticking this here because I want credit when I'm right...I put this speculation up on DH earlier on the unknowns on crafting...I also welcome your constructive comments...
I'd kinda like to get back to speculating on what the currently unknown Crew Skills are going to be. If you go by the Game Systems page there is 1 Gathering, 3 Crafting and 2 Mission options still unknown. There are a couple ideas you can get from the game systems page, however I wonder about some of the writing there because for example there is a reference under gathering that sounds very much like treasure hunting as a gathering skill, and to me it would seem unlikely BW would have 2 similar skills under different trees. So with that my speculation on the unlisted skills is:
Gathering: Information - based upon the line "The resources and information you gather..." I'm thinking that these could be something like single or limited use buff items that you use in compliment to your crafting or mission skills that would increase the likelihood of success (or possibly critical success) of that activity. Like you could acquire "a piece of intel" that you could use on a companion that would increase their success chance at their next treasure hunting missions by 5%, or you acquire a "rumor" that increases the success rate of diplomacy. For crafting you could acquire something like a "advanced polymer theorum" that would grant a bonus to armor creation, etc etc etc.
Crafting: Weaponsmithing - this one seems pretty obvious and I'm surprised it wasn't listed at the start, but a craft skill to make weapons and weapon enhancements seems like a layup
Crafting: Tailoring - to me this seems obvious as well, vanity clothes are usually popular and things like jedi robes, cloaks and other non-hard metal armor items have to come from somewhere (note the use of the terms hard metal and shielding in the armortech description, hence why I think they will have a deliniation between hard and soft armor types)
Crafting: Droid Engineer - this would be for creating enhancement items, repair kits and repairs in general for droid companions. It wouldn't make much sense immersion-wise for stimpacks or force healing to work on droid and droid companions, however we do know that those exist within the game, so a crafting type that revolves around them, especially given what a central role they play within the Star Wars universe, makes too much sense to be ignored.
Missions: Smuggling - smuggling is a core concept within the Star Wars universe, unfortunately the script requirements of video games makes it difficult to impliment for players to partake in the more subtle versions, but having it implied in a way where you could send out a smuggler-type companion to go do things like smuggle some sympathizers out of the opposition factions space or sneak some supplies into insurgents would be cool and could be a good way to farm DS or LS points
Missions: Research & Design - I'm only speculating this based on the line under missions "You can choose from a variety of mission skills – is your crew into conducting research?" and I figured it would be something where the results of that mission would either be a prototype item or a new schematic for a given crafting skill

Re: More on crafting
Furiel, would you like to polish that some and make it into a blog post?
Maybe find some pictures we can insert? I can help if you like.
And I open that invitation to anyone btw. Basically if you can write a long post like Furiel did, it isn't that much further to writing a blog post. And even though his is speculative, I think it definitely adds something to the conversation even if half his predictions turn out wrong. We are just in that stage of the game as fans.

I could do that, based on some feedback I got on DH already I'll probably tweak it some though...

Re: More on crafting
I've been trying to figure this out for a couple days now SirP and I guess I'm going to need you to explain to me how you aren't actually doing the crafting. 1) you are the one who makes every decision from inception to final product. And 2) if you really think about what we know about the system so far, if you replace the word companion with harvestor and/or factory, how is this that different from what we did in SWG? In SWG we had harvestors get our materials while we adventured and we had factories producing the items we gave the the schematic, power and materials for while we adventured. The only significant difference is that in SWG you could experiment with the schematic to increase the results, however that possibility has not been ruled out yet either so I ask again how is this so disappointing? We've done this before, just with a different package on it, and we loved it then. Why the hate now?Sir Psyko wrote:As a crafter, I'm not very happy. Also the one other thing to keep in mind is that BW has stated that crafting missions take a minimum of 5 minutes to a full day, so would you really want to tie your character for a full day doing nothing to be able to make a lightsaber of total pwnage?

Re: More on crafting
Another crafting update today. Along with them revealing a new crafting type - Armstech. So I'm 1/1 on predictions so far bitches!!
And also for the record, I now know what Furiel is going to be - Human Commando/Armstech. Now I just need the damn game to come out so I can play him...

Re: More on crafting
Is there going to be an equivalent of armorsmith?
A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn. - Edmund Blackadder
Re: More on crafting
Armortech - it was announced in the original crew skills update.
So for known crafting types we have: armor, weapons, medicine and jedi artifacts with 2 unknowns yet.

Thanks Blackie. I didn't see it on the first page and I didn't have all night to dive through it all to find it.

Well if searching by author was too tough, I guess clicking on "Crafting" in the tag cloud would be beyond you.Vespasian wrote:Thanks Blackie. I didn't see it on the first page and I didn't have all night to dive through it all to find it.

What can I say, I was too distracted with finding original ways to mock you aside from rehashing our typical "blackie is on the prowl, look for the fat man working at chuck-e-cheese's".Blackferne wrote:Well if searching by author was too tough, I guess clicking on "Crafting" in the tag cloud would be beyond you.Vespasian wrote:Thanks Blackie. Oh, wait, that's right, I'm still 4 years younger than you. It certainly feels like more, but if you got out and exercised more you wouldn't look so old and busted. Maybe go out and walk behind the school bus full of elementary school students? Then we'd also have less fodder to mock you with.
