Minecraft Server Thread
Thanks for running the server Jimer - I'm really loving it as a low commitment alternative to MMO type gaming!

By popular demand, the great wall now has a 2nd gate in the southern desert.
Re: Minecraft Server Thread
So I am in the middle of a monster slimeball factory (via youtube videos) and the more I am working on it, the more I am thinking and feeling that this is a big waste of time. Effort vrs reward type of thing.
What I was wanting and thinking of building is a small slime harvester and would like some feed back and/or input on this project.
The larger idea is to have a pit in the ground with a slime in it. When it gets to it's large size, pistons would fire off and kill it, to spawn its 4 medium sizes, and then to fire again to kill 3 (ideally) of those off to spawn the small and then farm the small for slimeballs. The intent is to leave one of the medium size slims to grow back into the large and triggering a repeat of the process.
Using repeaters, I believe I can get the pistons to delay to get them down to the small sizes and to keep at least 1 of the mediums, but I am not sure how to go about killing off the smalls and if the mediums grow back into a large slime. Thoughts and advise please.

Well the first thing to know is slimes don't grow its a randomization on what size the slime spawns as, so a small will always be a small, and a medium is always a medium.Maizan wrote:So I am in the middle of a monster slimeball factory (via youtube videos) and the more I am working on it, the more I am thinking and feeling that this is a big waste of time. Also not totally against using pistons but the last time I did something like this I used moving water to push the slims into fencing that would have the water move the small slimes under the fence and beat up the larger ones until they became small and then collect the small slimes in a place to kill manually. Since slimes killed by the environment don't drop slime balls. The only thing to check would be if the slimes pushed against the fence still hurts them.
Re: Minecraft Server Thread
Is that true? Every once in a while I'll be traveling around swamps and find slimeballs sitting in the water there slimes apparently drowned. Or maybe Cuspar just killed them and let them thereStaris wrote: slimes killed by the environment don't drop slime balls.

Re: Minecraft Server Thread
Cuspar doesn't have time to be asked where he wants his receipt, do you really think he has time to pick up all those slimeballs?Bulwark wrote:Is that true? So is this what the problem is?Jimer Lins wrote:I tested it and couldn't make a portal. I also noticed that when I placed a door it didn't make the characteristic "thunk" sound that it should when placing one. Can you guys verify the same thing?
It makes me think there may be a bug in the current version of Bukkit that's not firing an event when a door is placed. The bukkit issue tracker has nothing on it, but I'll look into the diffs from pre-1.7.9 and see if I can figure out what's going on.
org.bukkit.material.Door
No longer functions. Do not use.

Where did you find that? I've been tracking Bukkit bug reports and haven't seen anything on it.

I just did a search for: Bukkit door 1.7.9

edit: I wasn't sure when it was deprecated.

Re: Minecraft Server Thread
I hate it when someone deprecates functionality, but doesn't list it's replacement in the docs.
Re: Minecraft Server Thread
you could rewrite it using the blockPlaceEvent, but that would introduce a lot of unnecessary code calls. Maybe use the PaintingPlaceEvent and use the same setup, but place a painting above the door to trigger it?

Re: Minecraft Server Thread
There's no released code for it so if I made a new one it'd be starting from scratch. We could devise our own functionality for it, though- instead of doors we could make it switches, pressure plates, whatever.
I'm open to suggestions.

In all seriousness, i can spin up a Github repository if anyone wants to work on a replacement portal plugin with me. It'll probably take some time to get right.
