The humans seem to not understand what Stavis is saying, but relax their pose.

Does Trinal recognize the language? He speaks Draconic and Elven.

Legend Lore role to recognize the language based on what it sounds like, their appearance and clothing, etc.

Stavis will try and recognized what was said and will look to the others to see if they understood, if he doesn't will repeat his statement in elvish in case they understand that.

History [OOC best guess at what should be rolled so let me know if it should be different.]

Trinal doesn't recognize it, and neither does Stavis.

Trinal will try a few words of Draconic in case they recognize that.

Looking at the rest, he asks "Does anyone recognize their tongue?"

Trinal suddenly smacks himself on the forehead, holds up a hand to the group, and says, gesturing to his pack as he takes it off, "Wait, wait... I forgot that I had this thing. One moment..."

A few moments of frantic digging in his pack and out comes his spellbook and a small box. After riffling through the book, glancing up and smiling at the strangers a few times, he then says under his breath "...right, ok, that, and those.... and that! Good...."

He quickly kneels on a blanket he pulls from his pack, puts the book down on it next to him and grabs some bits and bobs from the box. He calms down, looks at the group and says "This will take about ten minutes, but then I should be able to understand them. I'll have to concentrate, so try to reassure them while I work."

He then casts Comprehend Language, which is a 1st level ritual.

Things seem to be going swimmingly. One of the green team seems pretty interested in what Trinal is doing and reaches for a spell component. Victae lightly slaps the hand and shakes her head. Then smiles and offers a dried sausage which he takes, sniffs, then eats.

Stavis will pull out this lyre and play some music, keeping the tunes friendly and calming to help keep the group entertained and happy while Trinal does his thing.

Trinal completes the ritual spoiler tag for what he hears.

The green team is chatting among themselves pointing at Trinal and Stavis and making comments.
1: "Acha su'lotura a ypeore."
2: "Hisko per samma?"
3: "Fertuchu t'assa kee ro, Aqo't ava hundo. Wrassa tonne caswe."
2: "Ni nara ava hun. Xiao chun chaorl ka kun perrouti sin savva mes maol."
4: "Pada pon salcha. Parva tin taka con salcha. Jin chaka wonp preevi, wollosp barra tikon."

Spoiler:
You rolled well enough to understand, but not speak beyond veeeeery basic.
1: "I don't know why he's on that rug, maybe it is a prayer mat."
2: "Do you think it is worth much?"
3: "They just saved us, you can't rob them. Let him pray to his pagan gods in peace."
2: "I wasn't going to rob him. I was just wondering if he is rich and can give us money. We're going to need money now."
4: "I bet he's rich. He has his own musician and armed guards. Kind of young looking though, so he's probably some noble's kid."

To the rest of the group Trinal says "I can understand them, but I don't think I can speak it very well at all. Sometimes the magic isn't as effective as others. Right now they're talking about how they think I'm praying and that they're in need of money." Smiling, he says "the second one- I'm not going to point because they might misunderstand- told the others that they can't rob us because we saved them. I think they're a bit confused about us, and they seem to believe that I have my own musician and armed guards." Pausing, he grins and says "I sort of like that notion."

Seeing Victae's expression, he stops and says "...just a joke."

Turning to the men he says as clearly as he can in their language: "Hello. We are friends. I can understand you."

When Trinal finishes Stavis will put up his lyre and listen to his explanation.

"If your going to have trouble communicating back, it may be better off leave as friends then waste time trying to get any useful information. Though I'll leave that to your discretion. I'm however willing to give 10G to help them since they are clearly enemies of Chulassa."

"I will however want to search the bodies for anything and clear the road, so at the very least you have that much time to try and get what you can"

After saying his peice will search the bodies of the Chulassa to hopefully get some information, any gold found he will divide evenly between our group and the green group. Placing the green groups pile close to them inducing the 10G he promised and letting Trinal know to tell them that it is theirs as thanks for fighting the Chulassa as best he can.

Percpetion
[dice]0[/dice]

After searching will first move just the people into the ditch close to the thick brances, as he wants to be careful moving the animals in case the green group will see the horses as a source of meat.

Stavis searching the people yields little money 5g each so 15 total. The impress on the coins is weird. Not something you recognize. #2 seems very intent on watching you rifle the bodies and says "Acha ash lrika pubif nasa!" while pointing at you.
Spoiler:
2: "He's looting the bodies!"
1 repsonds "Ichi wesu qin prata."
Spoiler:
1: "Calm down before you anger him."

Did they show any understanding of what I said before?

"Stavis, hold off. They don't seem to like that we're looting the bodies. I'm not sure what's going on just yet."

To the strangers:

"I can understand you. Do you understand me?"

Stavis can't help but roll his eyes a bit at the demand of stopping but complies and since he doesn't recognize the coins, will opt to not keep any of the coins and instead place all of them in one pile and the 10G he is giving them in a separate pile being very deliberate to show its coming from his coin purse and not from the dead. "Tell them it is theirs if they wish." indicating the money from the dead and then indicating his "This is theirs in friendship."

Will then point to where he planned to move the bodies and ask "Am I allowed to bury the bodies under the snow or will that further upset them?"

He will then go ahead and start moving that way to shovel the snow out to create a trench that the bodies can be placed in and then covered over. "If they don't like that I will stop but the bodies will need to be moved at the very least as a curtsy to the lodge. As blocking the road here where it won't be easy to get around them should they freeze to the ground, would not be very hospitable to the service we received."

Trinal nods. In their language, he says "Yes."

To Stavis Trinal says "I think there may simply be some cultural assumptions at play here. They don't seem angry, just... shocked, maybe?"

To Trinal

1: "Mirë ne kemi qenë marrë nga jashtë në shtëpi . Ne u bënë për të luftuar ." He does some soft karate chops. "Ne e kemi lënë ushtrinë atje . Ne duam të shkojnë në shtëpi , por ata kanë .... he turns to the others "çfarë është një fjalë e idiot i pushtuar për të ?"
4: "Une nuk e di. Mundohuni të skllavëruar ? Apo rrahur ? Po rrahur."
3: "A do të bëjnë të tingëllojë si ata janë të gjithë të vdekur ?"
4: "Jo. Nëse familja jonë u vranë , ai do të them vrarë , rrahur nënkupton nënshtrimin dhe shtypjen , jo domosdoshmërisht vdekjen e përhapur ."
Duartrokas duart e nëse ju i kuptoni ."

Spoiler:
1: "Okay we have been taken from out home. We were made to fight." He does some soft karate chops. "We left there army. We want to go home, but they have.... he turns to the others "what's an idiot word for conquered?"
4: "I don't know. Try enslaved? Or beaten? Yeah beaten."
3: "Does that make it sound like they are all dead?"
4: "No. If our family's were killed, he'd say killed, beaten implies submission and oppression, not necessarily widespread death."
3: "I'm just saying beaten can be taken two ways."
1: "Look I'm not sure he's even going to pick up the nuance of what I'm saying. He might just be nodding to be polite. I'm going with beaten." Turning back to Trinal "Our home was beaten, so we need safe place. Away from horse mans. Clap hands if you understand."

As Stavis digs the trench will comment to Trinal but being sure to be considerate of his other conversation. "You know in hindsight Trinal, while you where making copies for the Arcane gate instructions, we should have shared out ritual books."

To the whole group, Trinal says "They don't realize that I can understand them clearly and think I can only understand them as well as they can me. Well, we'll persevere."

Smiling, he points to number 1- it's a friendly smile. "This gentleman says they were taken from their homes and made to fight." Trinal, looking at the guy and then at the rest, makes a similar karate chop move, saying "His gesture was meant to convey fighting. He goes on to say they they deserted the Chulassa, and that they would like to go home but that their homeland was conquered. He asked this gentleman- " here he points at number four, again with a smile, "what a simple word for conquered would be, and they discussed whether 'enslaved' or 'beaten' is the right word. They're essentially saying that their homeland was conquered - " here he raises his hands in a gesture of surrender and nods to them - "but that there wasn't widespread death. "

"They're earnest, in any case. The last bit was a very simple way of saying 'home beaten, need safe place.' They want me to clap if I understand. Let me try to convey something..."

Looking at number 1, Trinal claps once. He then points at the ritual components he used. He then deliberately points to his temple, then to his ear, and nods. He then claps once more. In their language he says "I understand. Not speak well. Yes, understand."

As an aside, at Stavis' words, and looking chagrined, Trinal says to Stavis, "You're right, of course. I had almost forgotten I had these ritual components."

While digging the simple trench will stop for a moment but quickly continue, becoming deep in thought as he considers his next move.

After finishing will head up to Syric, indicating to Tony and Victea to group up while Trinal talks to the other group. Asking Trinal while he waits for the two. "How long do you think it would take to make a copy of the ritual?"

Trinal smiles again and holds up 3 fingers, but also puts his other hand up in a wagging motion, trying to indicate 'sort of'.

In their language "Road safe to lodge. We saw no Chulassa. We travel off road."

To the others he says "I wish I could speak more than this pidgin, but they do realize I can understand them now."

He points to the stuff Stavis set aside and says to them "Yours."
