Trinal looks at Tony wryly. "You read my mind, friend. But they'd have to be cooperating with one another to be intentionally steering us that way, so we can hope that it's just the vagaries of chance and avoid any entanglements."
"Tony Plush isn't so arrogant as to think that it would have been directed at us, just in general if you have an enemy force embedded in a forest if you burn it and leave on direction safe you can nerd them that way, and it could have been directed at the drowning but we just get caught in the crossfire."

Tony will take middle watch so that should leave Syric and Victae for first.

Night passes and the hirns and drums are all to the south. Whatever is going on, you seem to have passed it. The morning comes. Smoke is to the SE. The horns were to the SW and S. The day looks to be a cool one with little sunshine due to cloud cover.

I think we'll proceed northeast now, and try to stay in lowlands if possible.

I'll assume you walk NE then.

The party packs up their gear and sets out. After maybe 30 minutes you find yourself in a burned out forest. Dead black trees devoid of leaves are all you see. Charred branches gnarl to the sky. Each step has a slight crunch to it and you can still see last embers here and there. Quickly you find yourself in a place that is eerily quiet. The sounds of birds and bugs are gone. You walk NE for the morning and see nothing but the burned remains of the forest. Around noon you see in the distance some figures working on some kind of cart.

If they haven't spotted us, we'll definitely avoid them.

Let's all take a knee and get down out of sight if we can.

"If you think you can get close enough, that's fine. But looking around with just tree trunks and no foliage, plus the ground crunching everywhere you walk, I'm not sure it's feasible. Should we simply circle around them to the north and continue on?"

I suggest we fall back a bit and move north to avoid them out of their line of sight, then start moving northeast again. If you want to check them out and link back up with us, that'll work.

"I don't really care to find out who's side they're on, I just don't want them to alert anyone to our presence. Maybe Stavis should go with Tony, I don't really like sending someone off by themselves for no reason."

"Tony, take one of the sending stones. Let us know what's going on, and if you need help. We'll keep moving and circle around out of their line of sight."

Stavis' clothes have ash on them from dust kicked up all morning. His dark skin blends in perfectly as well. Years of silence games as a child come back to him as he effortlessly walks above the crunch ash not audible but to beings on the astral plane.

Trinal, Syric and Victae head further north intending to stop maybe half a mile up to lay low and wait for word from Tony and Stavis.

Tony and Stavis quietly creep up on the cart with the figures.

"...and if you give me lip again boy I'll whop you a good one. Hand me that hammer." a gruff voice says from under a cart precariously held up on a burnt log.

"I didn't mean nothing bout it. Just saying is all. I thought.." a younger voice says.

"Dat's your problem boy. always thinkin'. Only thing thinkin' will get you is yer head cut from yer body. Now hand me that bloody 'ammer!" The older voice says impatiently.

A mule snorts and brays.

"Ah you want some too you? I should sold you and bought a lamb. Least they make good stew."

The sound of hammer starts hitting something under the cart.

From a distance you do not see any sort of markings on the cart. There are some barrels and parcels. A mule is tied nearby and the cart itself is on three wheels with the fourth laying on it's side next to the cart. The cart is partially supported by a log.
