You get to be a manager!

So the gist of it is that there are three main types of crafting: gathering, crafting, and mission related stuff. You won't make shit yourself or even gather stuff yourself, you will direct your companions to do it for you. The companion you take out with you can gather or use "crafting" skills like diplomacy or treasure finding to manipulate how you get stuff (like a companion high in treasure finding may find rare parts). The ones you leave at your ship you can direct to do shit for you. "Hey Sparky! Me and Bubbles here are going out to the Pleasure Palace to um investigate stuff, when I get back I want 100 stimpacks. AND NO GOOFING OFF!"
This sounds interesting in that I imagine that with everyone having a broad scope of crafting resource gathering and perhaps companion skill specialization will be what is needed to stand out as a crafter.

Re: Crafting in SWTOR
I am very curious to see how this plays off. Crafting available offline is something that not many games have done as well. But apparently you can get really deep into the crafting system if you want as well.
I will just want to build my own lightsaber!

Re: Crafting in SWTOR
I like the gather/craft while offline options. Takes alot of the mundane grinding crap out of the game that I always hated about crafting. As much as I enjoy being self sufficient for crafting stuff for myself I am glad to know that the endless running in circles to gather resource X will not be necessary.

I like this idea. I'm not sure how well it will work, but I really like the concept.
Re: Crafting in SWTOR
It's an interesting twist I have to say, and depending on how it works I can see some interesting ramifications as well. Such as me bringing my laptop to work so I can login over lunch to collect what my minions have gathered then sending them back out into the wilds or getting them to work on making my shiny new Sith Slaughterer 3000 blaster cannon.
And speaking of Sith slaughtering...if you haven't watched the warzone video yet, watch it. I'm not a big PvP guy, but I actually pitched a little tent and am now kinda interested in the PvP aspects, at least the warzone stuff...

I always liked the resource gathering in SWG; the harvesters and changing resource maps were their own minigame that was one of the things I enjoyed the most.
A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn. - Edmund Blackadder

Re: Crafting in SWTOR
On a gathering side it was friendlier than the current WoW system of "oh I want copper...option 1 buy of AH, option 2 mount up and wander around Elwynn for 30 minutes". I am excited, but will wait and see before getting a crafting boner over it. I really hope they take some of the AH tools from EVE like putting a buy order up.Jimer Lins wrote:I always liked the resource gathering in SWG; the harvesters and changing resource maps were their own minigame that was one of the things I enjoyed the most.

To prevent a possible guild fracture over this I ask you to coordinate with your guild members to form a vibrator oligopoly instead of a Happyclam monopoly on battery powered happiness.Happyclam wrote:I want to corner the vibrator market.

What's a fracture? Back where I'm from we use the word schism to describe things of this nature.Blackferne wrote:To prevent a possible guild fracture over this I ask you to coordinate with your guild members to form a vibrator oligopoly instead of a Happyclam monopoly on battery powered happiness.Happyclam wrote:I want to corner the vibrator market.
And as one of the co-founders of jawapr0n industries I am perfectly willing to allow the Clam to head up the vibrator division of jawapr0n industries and I grant him full autonomy within his division to run it as he sees fit.

Water? I thought that's what was used to wake me up from my drunken slumber... you mean it's a drink?Furiel wrote:I do too, I haven't had a good glass of water in years...Whiteness wrote:I miss being a moisture farmer on TatooineJimer Lins wrote:I always liked the resource gathering in SWG; the harvesters and changing resource maps were their own minigame that was one of the things I enjoyed the most.
