So apparently every disgruntled player is spreading the hate on it. I like this game a lot so decided to review it. Feel free to join in if you want.

I gave it a 9/10. I think it's an awesome game.
Most of the complaints seem to be that it's just a clone of the game that everyone seems to love playing - which to me is sort of like complaining that the new Toyota is lame because it's still basically four tires and a steering wheel and Honda already did that.
I'm also trying to remain adult enough not to be mad at BioWare that Amazon can't get me my physical media until fucking Dec. 24th, which I believe means that I'm proper fucked for playing after tonight.

This reminds me of all those video game reporters who reviewed it despite not liking any mmos. It would be like a sports reporter covering financial news. "My expertise is on bullpen pitchers from venzuela, so here is my take on credit default swaps."
Though to be fair I find the lack of a 3-4 defensive package is limiting my ability to rack up sacks and forced fumbles/game. I'm not sure Joun is going to even be considered for the defensive player of the year at this rate.

To be fair, its definitely WoW in space. At this point in the game I find myself not enjoying it as much as I did SWG. People are bringing all of the WoW terminology and gameplay and tactics into this game. The only real difference is the inclusion of a single-player RPG story into a persistent world.
I haven't been to all of the planets, but if the first 3 are any indication, their design is definitely inferior to SWG. In SWG you could actually get lost out in the "wild". That aspect is sorely missing. I also find myself less interested in battling against scripted events and quests than I was in battling and scheming against actual people. The organic interplay of players and their factions and how their actions could affect the entire universe was SWG's crowning achievement and I wish that this game could have captured at least a little of that magic.
Now I don't hate the game at all. It is good. I would give it a 7/10. In comparison, I feel Skyrim is a much better game. But, being able to play with you louts makes TOR a 10/10.
Oh, while the space combat is fun it is far inferior to JTL. That was one of the coolest things ever.

Ah, Penny Arcade with a spot-on review IMO:
Gabe wrote:I quit playing the Star Wars Beta months ago because I didn’t want to spoil the game for myself. I think that statement alone says a lot about the sort of MMO Star Wars is. Now that the game has launched Kara and I have jumped back in and we’re having a great time. We have not experienced any of the long queue times or crazy lag that so many people seem to be complaining about. I understand that there are plenty of people having technical issues with the game but I can’t speak to that.
I’m playing a different class than I did in the beta and so I’m getting a brand new experience. I’m just amazed at the quality of the class specific story-lines. The mission objectives and dialog choices really help you develop a character and not just an avatar. I mentioned this when I talked about the Beta a while ago and to me it really is the defining difference between SW:TOR and other MMO’s. While playing last night with Scott he explained that his bounty hunter was all about completing her contracts and getting credits. She didn’t let her feelings get in the way of the job. He was thinking about this before his character was even level 10. I’d be very surprised if he had any idea what sort of “person” his Troll Shaman was in WOW.
Kara is playing a Sith Inquisitor. A couple nights ago she was complaining that being bad was difficult and she was struggling with some of the dialog options. Last night she was volunteering to help torture people and was actually pissed when we accidentally gained light side points. Bioware has always done an incredible job of putting you in your character’s shoes and making you care about them. The fact that they have managed to transfer that into the MMO space is a fucking triumph in my opinion.

Metacritic, lawl. Does anyone pay attention to their ratings on anything? They let any drooler with keyboard rate, kind of makes their results... suspect.

Well my concern is that if the rumor of "fans hate this" grows unnecessarily that there could be ramifactions for the game. That is why I wrote something and gave it a 10 to counter balance. Sang of PAX actually wrote a pretty good take down of the complainers.Jimer Lins wrote:Metacritic, lawl. Does anyone pay attention to their ratings on anything? I like the game. I have never played WoW. It reminds me a lot of eq with the interface and targeting and well just alot. But it's star wars and it's not eq. I find it hard sometimes making descions on how to do the missions and what is the right and wrong thing or light and dark action. This game is huge. I like the fact there is alot to do but I hate having 10 missions. I guess i just can't help accepting ones when I come across them in an area. It's a bit more realistic than SWG in some ways. I liked the open area of SWG. But in Tor if you fall off something you can die. Might be cool to mix in some planets that are open in the future
