Vlad leads you to a different boat than you used last night. It is sleeker, he claims faster, and has a crew of three to help.
"They will do the mast work and lead the rowing when needed." Vlad says.
Viggo has arrived wearing different robes than before and carrying an ornate staff and an orb.
It is about 1pm.
Anything anyone needs or wants before the ship leaves?

Stavis, after removing his jester clothes but keeping on the mask and putting the closes in his pack, will get on the ship and get into position to row.

Syric will stop in a tavern on the way, grab the first ale he sees, make a toast to Kord and run out to catch up with the others. Once they reach the boat he will kneel and make a prayer to Melora.

The boat gets going with some rowing. The wind is in your favor as you set out. It is a hard row to get going and the afternoon is coming to a close when you see what appears to be a boat coming for you on an intercept course from an island that has a large castle like structure on it. If you don't alter course it will be withing arrow range in ten minutes.

Map:
https://docs.google.com/drawings/d/151j ... sp=sharing
Your boat is the happy face, red sun is the interceptor. Green is the island. If you guys get within 2 squares you are within arrow range. Your boat mobility per round is 3. Theirs is 4.
IF YOU MOVE THE BOAT LIST YOUR START AND END POSITION VIA THE GRID
Example: You guys start at R17. Syric may post R17 to R14, or R17 to O14. Once a move for your team has been made then no one else can move the boat until they baddies take their turn. If you get within 2 squares a closer tactical map will be made.
Also this the first interceptor, but it may not be the last.

OK, first off I suggest we pick one person authorized to make movements so we don't end up with conflicting guidance.
Second, Trinal looks at the boat and tries to figure out its likely complement and weapons.
Legend lore (using it as a knowledge check): d20+8=17+8=25
Perception: d20+3 = 20+3=23

Having grown up on a farm you don't really have much knowledge of boats, but based on books and descriptions you think you are looking at a coastal hunter type boat, Jacht is what you think they are called. Your perception however allows you to get a better sense of the type of ship. It has a few sails, a v shaped hull allowing for quick water movement and sharp cuts. The size of teh boat you'd guess needs 4 men to crew minimum, but probably can carry 15 before people start tripping over each other. at this distance you don't know how many they have though. And based on history cannons are highly unlikely so the only weaponry to worry about at range is archers and mages, and up close ramming spikes and corvuses.

Trinal relays this info to the rest.
"They're faster than we are, so I think our best option is simply to close as rapidly as possible and either destroy or board her."

Stavis will look to see if the approaching ship has ramming spikes.

It would be fairly common for this era, and at the distance it would be hard to tell for sure, but your gut says probably.

Does our boat have a ramming spike or corvus? Are the extra crew also archers or does this boat have any ranged weapons? also also, how many movement squares do these squares correspond to? i.e. Syric may attempt a long jump when we get close enough.

With a running start I'd need to roll a 30 to jump 30 feet (30/ 5 = 6 Squares or 30ft)
9 in athletics +4 from Knack for Success +5 from Might Sprint = 18
So if I roll a 12 or higher....?

Apply a -2 modifier for the ship being unsteady (waves and in motion) and you are also forgetting that ship deck to ship deck may not be level, and there are railings on both boats you'd have to calculate in for your jump.Whiteness wrote:With a running start I'd need to roll a 30 to jump 30 feet (30/ 5 = 6 Squares or 30ft)

If that counts as difficult terrain my Mighty Sprint allows me to ignore it! how tall are these railings?Blackferne wrote:Apply a -2 modifier for the ship being unsteady (waves and in motion) and you are also forgetting that ship deck to ship deck may not be level, and there are railings on both boats you'd have to calculate in for your jump.Whiteness wrote:With a running start I'd need to roll a 30 to jump 30 feet (30/ 5 = 6 Squares or 30ft)

OK, unless there's objections to the plan, let's move the boat to O-14.

Looking at Vlad and Viggo, Trinal asks "Do we have any grappling hooks or other equipment we can use to snag them and maybe lash them to ours? I'd like to nullify their speed and agility advantage if we can."

"Another option might be to try to pass them as closely as possible at high speed and hit them with fire. I could set them ablaze if we pass close by, which would certainly give them something to consider."

Re: LPDnD: We Come From the Land of the Ice and Snow!
"There are ropes and hooks. Not typically used for ship to ship combat, but it'll do on a tactical level I suppose. The really worry with the speed is if they ram us. And if they managed it while on fire, let's just say things will get complicated. I would suggest that we not lose sight of the island. We need to get there. If we lose the boat once on the shore, then it is better than losing the ship way out." Viggo says.

"What do you think then of making straight for the island? If we pass close by them we can take a potshot and then force them to chase us to land."
