LPDnD: Life in a Northern Town
"I have a feeling the bandits are unlikely to quite so open with only two boats here in broad day light especially with no confirmed activity this close to the town. I vote we get close enough to try and identify them. I am not suggesting we take on the bandits whole hog if they are here.
I would assume friendly or not they will make that clear long before we dock with the dock. If they are bandits I would leave with some cover fire to convince them not to follow and head back to the duke, since we will know of at least once place they are using.
If they are friendly they may be able point us towards any forts the bandits are using and only require a cursory verification before again heading back to the Duke.
Likely scenario is they are friendlies with no information to be had."

"I don't share your assumptions Stavis, I don't see why two boats of friendlies would be docking at an abandoned sea fort. But I'd hate if Kord thought I was a coward, so let's go closer. Maybe we can land on the other side of the island and try to approach without being seen?"
[ooc2] I think Syric wants to do this more than I do, but I'll gamble we can pull of 4:1 odds.[/ooc]

"We might be best off with Miss Victae's suggestion. Tony Plush suggests we sail on, check one of the other forts, then we can return here at or after dark and make a quiet approach, we land on the opposite side of the island from the docks and Stavis and Tony Plush can make a stealth approach and gather intel without them knowing we were ever there."

Yes, splitting the party against an entire Horde is why we lost. Not impossible odds that were very obviously supposed to motivate us to run away.Maizan wrote:[ooc]Last time was a dismal failure because half the party split off and committed suicide. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE THE PARTY!
Shall we dock and at least start talking. Who knows, maybe this kingdom can get some tax revenue from these folks says Spintik
I don't care. We can go do this again. At least this time we'll be outside the fort. Ham won't leave the party, but he can think it's full of people with questionable decision making skills.

"Ok, we seem to be a bit all over the place, let's try to get some consensus. Do we land now or head on to another island before figuring out what to do with this one?" he says as he looks at each of his teammates in turn.
"Seeing that discretion is the better part of valor, I think Kord will accept a path that isn't rushing headfirst into battle. I agree with Tony, I think we should head on to the next island for now."

Re: LPDnD: Life in a Northern Town
Options please vote:
1) sail to the island with the two boats now. If things look bad(i.e the ships have markings of Bha''al at 100 or 200 yds out), just turn around and get out of town. If things look good go and try to talk to these gents.
2) sail past this island and check out the next one. Decide what to do with this one after a sail by of all islands.
3) sail only to the next island and return to this one under the cover of dark.

Re: LPDnD: Life in a Northern Town
"I say we check out the next island and come back during the night to scout." Victae says after a long pause.
Vlad says "Sure thing little lady." and the ship turns to keep distance and head off to the next island.
After some rowing a fortunate shift in the wind you approach the island with another small building. The sun is nearly set and the clouds have broken up so you see a nice orange sky with various grey clouds streaking across. There are no boats on the dock, but there does seem to be a fire going in the building based on the smoke you see trailing away.
"What's the plan?" Viggo asks. "I would suggest we find some way to get a little rest for the scouting party back at island two. It can be here with that island or just holding in the boat."

"If we are doing the night raid I would prefer holding in the boat so we can investigate and be back on land as quickly as possible as any light we would need to make our way by boat can make us stick out for quite a distance in comparison to any veterans of the sea like I would expect these raiders to be."
Re: LPDnD: Life in a Northern Town
The building is NOT a sea fort correct?

The building is ruins of a fort, much worse off than the other forts.

"Well the look of the place doesn't make me think they'd be holding a garrison of raiders there, I think we should land and take a look before we rest. Stavis, I think we can avoid the lights on the boat as long as the sky is clear enough to navigate by stars."

Re: LPDnD: Life in a Northern Town
Okay the ship heads towards island three durign sunset. Island three is showing a whisp of smoke coming up from it.
You land the boat on the far side of the small island and take a moment to rest after a hard day on the water.

Re: LPDnD: Life in a Northern Town
I assume we'll start making plans to sneak up on the fort if we didn't land at the docks. Probably Tony and/or Stavis would want to stealthily lead the way while Vlad and Viggo watch the boats.

[ooc]Sorry, I'm training again so my availability has been shot[/ooc]
Once we land and have rested a bit on island 3 it will be time to scout the smoke on this island.
"Ok people, Tony Plush is going to go check on that smoke and see how alone, or not alone, we are on this island before we head back to island 2. Stavis, care to tag along?"
I'm going to head toward the smoke stealthily and scout that out, keeping an eye out for traps and sentries.

Re: LPDnD: Life in a Northern Town
Tony sneaks like a whisper in the wind. He goes from the boats to the small ruins pretty quickly and sees a small cooking fire with a lump of a man slowly turning a spit with a fish on it. There does not seem to be anyone else. The ruins clearly used to be a fort, but much of the outer walls have crumbled, probably from an ancient earth quake. The second level is but a shell of the frame of the building.
