So, it's getting to that time where I need a new desktop computer for work.

The main tasks it will so are:
- running practice management and charting software (minimally intensive)
- x-ray viewing software (moderately intensive)
- word processing/email/etc

It, uh, also must be able to run the newest games at max settings.

I want to run 2 if not 3 displays.

So I ask you, PC dudes, what do I need?

Don't know if you are interested in building it yourself from scratch but Woot as a pretty good motherboard at a reasnable price that also has a $30 mail in rebate making it 139.99 plus shipping. My only compaint would be that it being Intel will mean having to pay a premium for the cpu in comparison to an AMD.

If you don't want to and want someone else doing the assembly http://www.newegg.com/, http://www.tigerdirect.com, and http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ are all people I've worked with to some capacity and have had no problems so far. With Black Firday and Cyber Monday coming up, if you keep your ear to the ground should have quite a few options at pretty reasonable prices.

I picked up a 128GB SSD plus 2.5 holder for about 150 bucks. My new "Multi-media presentation" computer will be arriving today. I resell Dell. They have/had an i7 3rd or 4th gen desktop with 2GB AMD vid card 8GB memory and a TB HDD for just under $1G retail.

I use to make my own desktops, but realized that I would be paying myself about a $1.50 an hour to build it and sell it, and the big manufactures still came in bigger and cheaper then I could.

I'd like to build one for the experience but because this is in a managed-care environment, it's probably not the best idea.

Our IT company doesn't et very good prices on hardware so I prefer to walk into a big box store and walk out with the best thing I can get (without paying for silly stuff, like a glowing alien head).
