So buried in there is a link to origin where you can buy keyfobs that can protect your account from hackers. Currently they smartphone apps aren't up yet (but they are supposedly coming). If you played WoW anytime since the WotLK expansion you know how prominent account hacks got. I'd strongly suggest in the next couple months picking a keyfob up or the smart phone app when they become available.
There is nothing like the peace of mind knowing that you can visit any puppet pr0n site and not worry about your swtor account being hacked as a result.

Other than *ahem* the prestige of carrying around the keyfob, is there any reason NOT to just get the app for this?

It really comes down to whether you want the keyfob or not. I did it because 1: I only play swtor at my computer. Key fob is at computer and no where else 2: I'm GM so if I get hacked it is bad, and since the apps aren't out yet I figured I needed to try and secure my account as quickly as possible 3: I accidently washed a phone in the laundry once. If I did that again I could be out of pocket for a day until I restored everything. I don't trust myself not to ever screw my phone up again.
All that said I seriously considered waiting for the app, but I erred to the fob mostly because of 2 and 3. Most people the apps should be fine.

Just a personal story:
I installed the Battle.net phone authenticator on my Android phone.
Two weeks later, something happened and it needed to be factory reset.
I spent the entire day on the phone with Blizzard de-authenticating the old app and re-authing the new one. A week later, I had to factory reset the damn thing again.
I went back to the little keyfob after that.

Personally I'm waiting for the app. The other thing about fob v/ app is that you need the authenticator if it's active to access your account online to adjust your payment plan etc so if you are like me and access that stuff from work then the app is handy.

Well you could put your fob on your keychain and take it everywhere with you. Just imagine all the babes you'll get at the bar.

I've had to factory reset my phone as well. Thankfully I did not have the authenticator app. It does suck to have to use an authenticator if you just want to post on the forums, but such is life. (I totally need an authenticator to prevent people from logging on as me and acting like a forum asshole, forget about all those 'virtual goods' that might get stolen.)

Wait, you need an authenticator to not be a forum asshole?

I ordered the fob, and I'm a forum asshole. Your argument is invalid.

I stopped bitching about that when as a GM of a WoW guild I logged in every day and had to cart 30 items from the mail back to the guild bank from guild members who's accounts got hacked. Blizzard would undue the damage and return all the material to me. And when an officer was hacked that number of items went from 30 to like 80. It was a royal pain.

See, the lesson I'm taking away from that is: Don't be a guild leader.

I knew it was wrong, I was adapting to my specific circumstances.

At least we can agree that Boston teams and their fans deserve the Human Centipede treatment.

You guys ahh wicked pissahs! I'm about an hour south of Beantown and a HUGE B's and Pats fan...
...Just for the record, we aren't ALL douchebirds.
As far as authenticators, yes or no? FAB or App?
