Here's some of the stuff I posted on COLS about it:
So, for those wondering about storyline and whatnot... here's a couple things:

Watched everyone in a party start a conversation to start a crawl. Basically, everyone's avatar gets a little box popping up. When you get choices in conversation, your choice gets a roll. Highest roll wins, and that party member's conversation choice is the one that gets used (and also the one that's given VO and the camera cuts to them saying their choice. Very cool).

There is a LOT of cutscenes/conversations. It's weird. It's very much like playing KOTOR but with friends. Co-op KOTOR? But it was super fun doing so. When someone chose a douchey conversation choice, and everyone else chose the safe bet, and that one person won, everyone wasn't mad. It was just like you were with them, everyone was like, "Oh god! Why would you SAY that, you d-bag?!" But in a very friendly way, like if a friend of yours said something embarrassing in front of someone you were trying to impress.

Anyway, I thought it was kind of neat how they implemented conversations with parties.
- It's very familiar in terms of gameplay.
- Space combat is fucking awesome. SUPER fun. No flying around aimlessly, they just toss you right into the action on rails (but you still have to avoid asteroids and other such things, not just shoot at stuff while your ship avoids the space stuff).
- Smugglers are heals/dps. The demo they had at PAX featured Scoundrel as a healer.
- It is NOT A SANDBOX GAME. This is a WoW-esque MMO, and that was made crystal clear to me by a dev this weekend. It doesn't pretend to be anything but. Other than that, I have no answers for you.
Favorite part of the weekend? After checking out space combat, I talked to a dev about it. I said, "I think there's a lot of JtL fanboys that will hate this." His response? "We get that. But nowhere in the movies do you see Han and Chewie just fucking off in space."

I dunno, I rather liked this tidbit you shared with me:
The Fucking Dev wrote:"We're not a sandbox game and we will never claim to be. If you want to be Uncle Owen, you don't want SWTOR."
"We took the part of space combat that was fun -- you know, the COMBAT part? And made it fun."

I'll bet 10 bucks that Dev was Dallas Dickerson. He was a dev at SOE for SWG and he used to say about the NGE, no one wants to play Star Wars to be Uncle Owen.

are you saying that SWTOR = SWG+NGE?

About the conversation Wheel/options, is it like Mass Effect and Dragon Age, where the options are nice, evil, and neutral? Dragon Age 2 changes the neutral one to sarcasm, which is a lot funnier. I just want to know if you are playing republic, but can still be an evil asshole.

Not really but kind of.

I think of MMOs as stretching a spectrum of Disneyland Theme Park (see WoW) to sandbox (see EVE). Either approach is fine as long as that is what you expect. If Launch SWG never existed and we only knew NGE it might have been okay. But the problem was they started pretty far towards sandbox and then tried to reformat it to be themepark (minus all the content). So doing both approaches poorly.

SWTOR is in many ways a WoW clone. They are taking you through a guided experience instead of you creating it largely on your own. And I'm fine with that because they are being very very upfront about it with "we have these classes, we have story, we have story, also in case you missed it we have story, you are the hero, the hero of this story". So our expectation is that of "hey its a SW themepark and I'm not supposed to even consider the mundane plight of a moisture farmer."

Most people get Nice/Evil/Neutral. Scoundrels get sarcasm. At least that's what it looked like.

Yes you can, faction is being held separate from lightside/darkside, so you can be the most evil bastard you want to be, robbing from the poor to give to the rich and setting orphanages on fire because it's funny, and still be a Jedi Knight for example. You'll just be a dark Jedi Knight.

And that will impact how your companions and other NPCs interact with you. Like if you are the rainbows, fairies happy fun time sith, you might not get the respect of your peers you might expect.

I'll miss some of the sandbox. I'll miss the randomness that you could inject into the world. I'll miss the hikes through Tatooine and a few other things, but I'll definitely be happy to have some larger story provided.

I will miss the mining mini-game that I spent hundreds of hours playing.

That said I hope that there will be plenty of exploration considering the size of the worlds they have been talking about.

I'm gonna name my character Dingleberry. That's my new pet name, and it just sort of stuck to me.

Would it be in poor taste that Dingleberry and Happyclam are only separated by a taint?

Yes, I think it would be in poor taste.

You may not have seen Han and chewy fucking off in space, but you know it happened, boring holo chess, leia fixing(? )something she couldnt have known wtf it was and the quiet time eluded to in those brief meaningful cut scenes...
I mean do you really think that little bitch luke learned to "see" through his blast shield in 3 minutes????

I didnt like flying around without a purpose but I liked having control and to me this seems like I might as well be on a "rail ride" at disney?
I have to say though I found mining and harvesting a bit of a bother and I glad I wont have to do it... so Im in regardless...
