Feels like Starfox. And all things said, I'm okay with that.

My immediate dissections on said video - they reveal all of the player ships in that video if you really pay attention. They show a bunch of different ships and I noticed that some had red and some had green lasers - which would likely translate to red = republic, green = empire as it was throughout the movies.

My guesses as to who gets what:

The first ship we see is a kinda streamlined one similar to the Naboo royal ship - I'm going with Imp Agent (0:33 in)
Next one is similar to the Falcon - I'm saying smuggler for nostalgia (0:37 in)
One after is kinda similar to the B wing - as smuggler is already taken I'm saying trooper (0:41 in)
A few scenes laster is a kinda triangle ship mildly reminiscent of the TIE defender from TIE Fighter - BH by default (0:51 in)

Also in one of the scenes you see what I say is the smuggler ship smoking alot, I assume that is a damage level indication, and I'm guessing it's pretty serious.

Nah. The troopers are gonna have the assault shuttle that had the three wings. Similar to the transport shuttles, but with wings. They had them in Battlefront and such.

All the ship and class assignments are in the PC Mag article.

Still not happy with space combat at all.

No their not - the stuff in the PC Gamer mag was the authors speculation - and alot of it was wrong. I have the article in front of me right now (yes, even though I had the scans already I bought it anyway) and they said the trooper ship would be the foray-class blockade runner, which is not shown in the video, and that the BH ship would be a Firespray like Slave 1 - which also did not appear in the video. The B-Wingish ship and the Triangle fighter did.

Also remember it's PC Gamer, their ability to predict is second to just about everyone. They do good reviews and bring good info from their hands-on stuff, but their speculative ability is complete shit.

Are you still going to play?

I'm still stoked. When I first heard about ToR I didn't think there would be any space combat. So now that it is there, perhaps not with the freedom we all wanted, it's still icing on the cake for me.

I think this is still okay. Especially if they add a co-op mode down the road. Lucas Arts needs to make a modern take on the x wing vs tie fighter franchise. But dropping it in the middle of an mmo would be bad for the ground game and for the combat sim game as well. I'm firmly in the camp that an mmo has to have similar-ish systems in most everything you do. Going hardcore twitch on one aspect of the game when the rest of the game probably won't be is weird and a gating mechanism.

50-50 right now. It drops lower without a Beta/Demo to try it first. Crafting needs be sweet to counter the lack of 3D multi-player space.

Here is a portion of the DarthHater interview of James Ohlen, Lead Designer of SWTOR, where he answers why they went the way they did with Space Combat. (http://darthhater.com/2010/08/18/gamesc ... mes-ohlen/)

"Keep in mind, our game is all about cinematic storytelling and taking the best cinematic moments from the movies and recreating them. When we decided to add space combat to the game, we wanted to maintain this cinematic quality. To do this, we thought of the most exciting moments in the movies: The Return of the Jedi final battle, the original battle in Episode IV on the Death Star, Han Solo escaping the Imperial fleet in The Empire Strikes Back, Obi Wan battling against Jango Fett in the asteroid field in Episode II. Those are the kind of moments we decided we want to recreate. That is why we chose to go the route we did and to build the game the way we did. We built more of a crafted experience for the player, so that he doesn't have to go looking for the excitement in space combat. We did not want to create a game where you had to fly around in 3D space and try to find your excitement; you go directly into the space fighter game and the excitement is right there. It's like a moment from the Star Wars movies."

I'm almost certain I'm in the minority on this one, but that looks fun as hell.
