SWTOR release pushed back?

Post by Blackferne » Tue Nov 09, 2010 7:21 pm

Eurogamer: When will Star Wars: The Old Republic be out?

Ray Muzyka: Next year.

Eurogamer: Can you at least say whether it'll be the first half or the second half of the year?

Ray Muzyka: No. We're just saying 2011.

And for those of you wondering Muzyka is the CEO of Bioware.

Well, that gives me more time to get a computer ready for it. I'd rather wait than have an incomplete game again...though the incomplete game was the more fun one...damnit :woe:

They could still release in spring, I just found it interesting that they went from specific to a vague answer. And I will agree this is totally Reese's fault.

I caught this too. I swear they had said first quarter or something like that. And then was surprised they were going vague with sometime in 2011.

Yeah. Fucking Reese. Maybe if I promise to personally cuddle all the dev's while watching TeamCoco they will speed it up.

So, they're talking Fiscal 2012.

For different companies/organizations that means different things. I've only worked places where FY starts in July, but apparently EA's FY2012 starts in April of 2011.

So between April 2011 and March 2012 is the current "timeline."

According to DH the EA CFO said calendar year 2011, fiscal year 2012, so actually we've got it narrowed down to April 2011-Dec 2011.
Interestingly enough though they have yet to officially refute the Spring 2011 statement they made like a year ago. And with surveys going out for closed beta on turkey day I still think a late April /early May is realistic.

Two things:

1. I talked to Ray at the Spike awards this weekend -- I asked him when I was getting my beta key and he replied that the game was in third-party testing. Balgosa confirmed this; he asked if I'd gotten any emails about a survey and whatnot about SWToR. So I'd imagine we're going to see beta maybe in late Jan/early Feb, if we're lucky, which would place a launch around Nov 2011.

2. BARK BARK BARK BARK.

I find that info very interesting and it makes me wonder why they are still talking about a spring release target, which they mentioned again as their target in an interview last week, with it only in external testing. Unless they are planning on an extremely limited external beta I don't see any way they can hit that target. Although I can see a limited beta being possible since BW has been working so hard on keeping info under wraps about the game they may have made a decision to go with extensive external testing then a short external beta mostly for marketing purposes. I'm just not sure that's the best choice if that is the direction they decided on.

I don't want it to come out next fall, because too many other games are coming out then. How would I find the time for that, Arkham City, Mass Effect 3, and Uncharted 3.
