I noticed the floor in my son's room was soaking wet in one corner (about 3' x 4' area). I moved all his furniture out of the way and soaked up as much as I could with some towels. I put a fan on it and opened up his window to dry out the room (0% humidity and 105 degrees outside). After 24 hours, the floor was still wet in the same spot. It didn't get any smaller.
I checked the meter outside the house and it wasn't running, so there isn't a leak. His room backs up to the laundry, so I thought the washer may have overflowed, so I didn't run it for 2 days. No difference. We haven't had any rain, so it isn't a leaky roof.
I can't figure out where the water is coming from. Any ideas? Can carpet have stigmata?

Is there a room above his? The only thing that makes sense without the water meter running is a drain pipe of some kind.

Drain pipe in the wall? Water pipes in the wall? If the washer is on the other side that is your likely culprit.

Bottom floor on a concrete slab? Slab leak?

A slow leak may not be as noticeable on a water meter as you think.

Also the wall will likely have a mold issue if there has been a continuous water flow for any amount if time. No matter what you may want to consider replacing the drywall.

My advice has the caveat of me being far far away and IM'ing you from class. But it sure is a strange situation for how that water is getting in. Don't get one of those RotoRooter types, they will screw you over. Get a real plumber that isnt part of a large company. Use Angies list if you can.
