I am sure some of you have probably seen this already, and as much of a Mustang fan I am not, I still feel bad for whoever owns this car....

Yeah, you hate to see that kind of thing. Honestly they're lucky nobody got injured, the dyno drum got trapped by luck, it should never have escaped its cage. That thing could have killed several folks before losing energy if it had gotten away at that speed, they weigh a LOT and if it was spinning over 120mph, scary amount of energy.

Short aside: I was in a room once with a Toyota Supra on a dyno that was making about 950 wheel horsepower. Once the turbos got going I really wanted to get OUT of the room. That much power shouldn't be boxed up with squishy humans nearby!

Wow, that's a mess. The guy filming from the 2nd angle had the right idea, F the video - RUN! The guys in front were like "Let me get the framing right, ok hold on is anyone behind me? Let me inch away..." Skig's right, amazing how well the rollers were contained.

Never liked the looks of those portable dynos, it's like an erector set with <death to all humans> levels of angular momentum.

I assume those things a rated for a certain amount of RPMs. obviously someone failed to read the fine print.

I would awesome, some "worked" on it to make it "better".

Nothing like a little tweek to improve <death to all humans> dyno machine.

Yeah, they all have a maximum speed rating which I'm sure gets ignored most of the time because people want to do their pulls in the 1:1 gear, which on a Corvette would get you something like 160mph I bet. And the portable dynos always strike me a bit sketchy compared to the stationary ones; that aforementioned Supra was on a proper in-ground dyno where the guts are bascially housed in a cement bunker, if it fragged like that you'd barely know it.

I don't get it. Were they trying to roll back the odometer like in Ferris Bueller's day off?

They were trying to put an end to the debate of whether a car on a treadmill will still take off.

No, wait, that's airplanes.

I think Mythbusters already did that one....

EDIT: Yeah they did, though I say it wasn't entirely conclusive...

the title of this thread is very deceiving. Every time I go to it I keep thinking i"m going to see pictures and videos of dinosaurs eating people, and I keep being disappointed.

Decently executed deception breeds curiosity, which in turn leads poor suckers like you to see what its all about! :vader:
