The news keeps getting better...

UPDATE 3:30 PM: According to Twitter reports from a Disney investor call, Star Wars Episode 8 and 9 are also confirmed, with the plan being to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years.

My honest opinion is this is in general good news.

Look at Disney and Marvel. Marvel was on the verge of bankruptcy and closing shop when they bet everything on their film franchise. They showed with Xmen and Spiderman that people love these characters, Disney bought them and Avengers was kick ass.

Star Wars has a ton of material we've never seen. The question is where are they gonna go? Episode 7...are we skipping to the Skywalker Twins? Thrawn? Or something else? If they did it right they could set up multiple Star Wars Character Lines of Shows. Young Solo, A Darth Bane miniseries, A show about Palpatine's early life. Tons of material to develop.

One thing I am curious about...what does this mean for both SW 1313 and also ToR, if anything. Disney now owns the IP, so anything and everything dealing with SW now has to go through them...

ILM, Skywalker Sound and Indiana Jones are included. Combine all of this with Disney owning Marvel, they will either make everyone's childhood dreams come true, or destroy them.

Yeah, or Ewoks in every movie they make. They already have the kid squad show of the avengers, so why not one on Star Wars? Or Indy? Things like that scare me. This deal will probably be featured in a new episode of South Park.

An Ewoks village installed at Disneyland/world.

Ewok's Christmas special every year. Baby Star wars on the Disney channel. Ewoks get their own television show.

Besides, didn't George Lucas already rape our memory of Star Wars? And he was the guy who made it! At least we know these guys will do it for money, rather than to satisfy his original vision of what Star Wars was supposed to be like.

The one they made about Indiana Jones a few years ago summed up exactly how I felt.

I think that is the point. Disney can make multiple layers of the same IP targeted to different ages. We'll have Jedi Academy shows for kiddies, then a Clone Wars like thing for teens, and movies on par with Avengers for adults. You consume your level and ignore the rest.

Once something has been destroyed, it cannot be destroyed again. I see only positives from this.

Well, Disney at least hires writers for their films. So....

Plus, can you imagine how awesome it would be if Joss Whedon directed the new films?

2015 Avengers 2 comes out. I can't see him doing that AND Episode 7.

Out in little Disney, they created a park around the movie Cars. If they did the same thing for Star Wars out in Orlando, I would be the first in line for that. DagobhaLand? Pirates of Echo Base Ride? Hall of Jedis? Flight of the Millenim Falcon? Yes, yes, yes and yes!

I don't mind the news-I think it's time we have fresh sw eyes and direction. Tor has petered out and while I haven't played in months, I still have my account and have no desire to play.

This. I am AMPED about this news. Avengers was awesome, and lets not forget "Pirates if the Caribbean". If you haven't seen the films, I don't blame you. I was a bit Leary of them myself. I watched them for the kiddos and they are super entertaining!

Agreed! They basically have already done this ala the Prequel (sorry to the pt fans ) and Clone Wars. I simply disconnect from it. More quality Star Wars and child friendly Star Wars are not necessarily an OR proposition.

And I can't wait to see what Dr Cooper has to say about this
